Collier, Lee, Fla GOP: Trey Radel must go; Radel aide says he plans to return

Source: Naples Daily News

Collier and Lee county Republicans are calling for U.S. Rep. Trey Radel to resign immediately, saying his arrest on cocaine charges violated the trust of his constituents and party.A joint-statement issued by Mike Lyster, chairman of the Collier County Republicans, and Terry Miller, chairman of the Lee County Republican Executive Committee, said the 37-year-old freshman congressman’s arrest and admissions that he purchased and used cocaine shocked and disappointed his constituents and friends, who fully support his family and his rehabilitation. . .

Hours later, the Republican Party of Florida also issued a statement.

“The people of Florida’s 19th Congressional District need a congressman who is 100 percent focused on the needs of Southwest Florida,” said RPOF Chairman Lenny Curry. “Therefore, Congressman Radel should step down and focus his attention on rehabilitation and his family" . . .

Radel, R-Fort Myers, and his wife Amy couldn’t be reached for comment Monday night. However, Radel aide Dave Natonski, said in a statement that Radel’s “top priority right now is to complete his rehabilitation and then return to work as soon as possible.”

It will be interesting to watch how this plays out.
Ironically, a frontrunner to replace Radel is the Lee County Sheriff.

.... he needs to pay that back AND be disqualified from any taxpayer-based income ever again, same as the "welfare" recipients he voted to test for drugs.

As Speaker, Boehner should absolutely be referring Radel's case to the House Ethics Committee. The notion that this charge does not relate to his official duties (which would be the only reason why a referral is not appropriate, and it should be up to the Ethics Committee to make that judgment) is laughable. It is like saying that a baseball player using drugs on his own time bears no relation to his play on the field.

Republicans fight for their spots, our guys scurry away like punks. I don't blame this guy, he knows no one will do anything to him and he'll probably get re-elected.
