Wal-Mart heiress Alice Walton gets DWI arrest expunged
Source: AP
BENTONVILLE, Ark. Alice Walton, the billionaire daughter of Wal-Mart Stores founder Sam Walton, has had a 2011 arrest for suspected drunken driving cleared from her record, after prosecutors declined to press formal charges in the case.
The arrest was expunged from Waltons record during a hearing Monday in Parker County. Assistant Prosecutor Fred Barker told the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette in October that he expected Waltons request to be granted and that case records would be destroyed. He declined to discuss the matter Monday.
Its a criminal offense to discuss any information related to an expunction. As such, we have no information to provide, Barker said.
Walton, 64, was arrested on Oct. 7, 2011, on Interstate 20 at Farm Road 51. In September, officials said they would not file formal charges against Walton because the state highway trooper who arrested her has been suspended from his job.

(59,584 posts)I don't see why she gives a care if it disappears or not. She is 64 years old and does not have to worry about high insurance costs or getting a job. Regardless of the driving drunk which is stupid to begin with. Fighting this really makes no sense. What is it to her? Bragging rights? If I was a billionaire, I would care less (Again, I would not be in the situation to begin with but just saying it is a stupid fight).

(7,349 posts)But I know people who do. Most of them are struggling, some with kids. It's the cheapest place. I wish they wouldn't shop there, but I can't condemn them for it.

(49,988 posts)I have a family member who always tells me to go to Walmart for good prices. The last time was for tires for my lawnmower. So I called around and got them cheaper at my locally owned tire place. Same for prescriptions - it was cheaper at the grocery store down the street. And even groceries are cheaper at our locally owned store.

Her BAC was twice the legal limit and her attorney made a statement that she "accepts full responsibility". I guess we now know that was a lie.

And now there's word that Tyco's theft-meister CEO Dennis Kozlowski is being released. Dollars to donuts that he, like Michael Milken, will end up wealthier coming OUT of prison than he did going in.

(2,674 posts)Time and time again you read about someone driving drunk and causing an accident or worst yet, causing a death. There will be no names released. You know that it was someone from a rich well-connected family. They get away with cold blooded murder too. Helps if they claim they are Christians. But the money is what counts.

(1,015 posts)1989 Alice struck killed a woman who stepped in front of her car
By the mid-1980s Alice had moved back to Northwest Arkansas to raise cutting horses, which are trained for a competition in which riders in a ring compete to separate cattle singly from a herd. Alice got involved in her family's businesses, establishing and running an investment brokerage operation at Arvest. Then, one morning in 1989, there was a great tragedy. Alice struck and killed a woman who stepped in front of her car as she was driving to work. To this day she is visibly shaken when that event is mentioned.
