White House: deadline for Afghan security pact could slip into January

Source: Reuters

The White House would like Afghan President Hamid Karzai to sign a bilateral security agreement by the end of the year, but the deadline could slip into early January, a spokesman said on Wednesday.

"If you're asking, 'Does that mean that if they sign it on January 10th, that's going to be a huge problem?' Probably not," said Josh Earnest, a deputy spokesman for the White House.

"What will be a significant problem is if there is not quick action taken to get this signed," Earnest told reporters at a briefing.

I've seen no discussion on the possibility that many of our soldiers may have developed opium habits over there. If so, I guess we won't start finding out about it until they come home.

Hilarious that we are being told there will be a 'significant problem' if this agreement is not signed!! We want the U.S.A. out of Afghanistan. Why do our negotiators always take the recalcitrants by the hand and spoon feed, no stuff, an agreement down their throats? Just walk away, very fast.
