Ray Price Goes Home for Hospice Care
Country Music Hall of Fame Member Says Goodbye to Fans
December 12, 2013; Written by Craig Shelburne
Ray Price will leave the hospital for home hospice care in Mt. Pleasant, Texas, according to a news release sent Thursday (Dec. 12) from East Texas Medical Center in Tyler.
Price has been battling pancreatic cancer for more than two years. In the statement, he sent this message to his fans: "I love my fans and have devoted my life to reaching out to them. I appreciate their support all these years and I hope I haven't let them down. I am at peace. I love Jesus. I'm going to be just fine. Don't worry about me. I'll see you again one day."
Price and his wife, Janie, decided not to pursue any further aggressive treatment after Price re-entered the hospital. ... "Ray is alert and aware of his surroundings and making decisions," said Janie Price. "With God's blessing he has not had extreme pain. But it's with great sadness that I announce to you today that my beloved husband has entered the final stages of his cancer that he has battled for 25 months. Anyone who knows Ray is aware that he has strong convictions and great faith in God. It's his decision to leave the hospital and return home to spend his final days on his beloved ranch surrounded by the comfort of his home, family and friends."
A member of the Country Music Hall of Fame, Price's signature hits include "Crazy Arms," "City Lights" and "For the Good Times." ... Cards may be sent to Ray Price, P.O. Box 1986, Mt. Pleasant, TX 75456.

Edited to add this. The lyrics are particularly poignant.
More editing.

College tradition
"For The Good Times" is the official song of Company A-1 of the Texas A&M University Corps of Cadets. In the early 1980s, representing their time in the corps, the seniors of A-1 sang the song before their last football game. Company A-1 seniors now sing it before every Texas A&M football game and at important outfit functions, and "For The Good Times" has since become the company motto as well.

(5,842 posts)My wife and I were easily amoung the youngest people in the crowd (and we were in our early 40's at the time) but it was a fantastic show (even if it did verge a bit on the Lawrence Welk / cheesy side at times)

His farewell to George Jones summed up today's "country" scene:
"with the passing of my good friend, George Jones, the door to an era in time is slowly closing. With only a handful of us left standing, the country music I knew and loved has also passed away. It is my great hope that the younger generation of singers will remember all of us from that time and carry on.

(57,636 posts)You can practically feel the warmth pouring off the TV set with all the vacuum tubes inside. Was that Faron Young's TV show? Was that a Nudie jacket? I'm no expert on country music, but I do recognize the giants.
You can never go wrong with the classics.
Thanks for the video.
