PAUL RYAN – WE NEED YOU TO PROTECT VETERANS BENEFITS AND SERVICES FROM WASHINGTON’S BUDGET BATTLES

Imagine trying to run a large business or organization without knowing what level of funding you will receive each year or when it will arrive. This is the unfortunate situation VA officials have faced 22 of the past 25 years when Congress has failed to pass a budget on time.

Veterans' bill voted down by GOP as Senate Democrats proclaim 'New Low' 9/19/12

Democrats fall two votes short of passing bill that would help unemployed veterans amid accusations GOP played politics

Harry Reid, the majority leader of the Senate, said the bill had met 'one Republican stall tactic after another'.

voted down legislation that would have established a $1bn jobs program to put unemployed veterans back to work as firefighters and police officers and in public work projects.

They objected to the cost of the bill, which they said violated spending limits agreed to last year in Congress.
Democrats and veterans groups say its cost are fully offset.

only apply to those younger than 62, almost all of whom are working other jobs and "double dipping."

I realize no one likes to take a haircut, but "retired" working upper middle-agers seems like a lot better choice to cut than a lot of other things I can think of.

Northern Virginia . If a Veteran has 100 jobs and is " Upper Middle -ager " ?????, they should have same retirement benifits as ANY senator or congressman .

Probably more. Retirement pay from the military isn't "double dipping"--it's earned. Most people can only take 20 years of military life--it's extraordinarily disruptive to a family, not to mention the whole part about being in harm's way and having little to no control over many circumstances in one's life. My husband upheld his end of the contract--the government is wiggling out of theirs.

...that's a whole lot of assumptions you've got there, and not much hard evidence. Secondly, after a career in the military it's EARNED benefits, thank you very much. Particularly for those who've been deployed numerous times the last 10 years. And lastly, please don't fall into the Rethug, divide and conquer trap.
