Sixth Advertiser — Carbonite — Drops Limbaugh Despite His ‘Apology’ Because He’s Beyond The ‘Bounds
Source: ThinkProgress
Moments ago, Carbonite a company providing backup software for computers announced that it will no longer advertise on Rush Limbaughs show. CEO David Friend made clear in a Facebook statement that, despite Limbaughs apology issued tonight, the company was still pulling its ads because it wants to contribute to a more civilized public discourse:
No one with daughters the age of Sandra Fluke, and I have two, could possibly abide the insult and abuse heaped upon this courageous and well-intentioned young lady. Mr. Limbaugh, with his highly personal attacks on Miss Fluke, overstepped any reasonable bounds of decency. Even though Mr. Limbaugh has now issued an apology, we have nonetheless decided to withdraw our advertising from his show. We hope that our action, along with the other advertisers who have already withdrawn their ads, will ultimately contribute to a more civilized public discourse
Indeed, evidencing the point made by Friend, Limbaughs apology is riddled with offensive statements, comparing contraception to sneakers and implying that birth control is only a subsidy for personal sexual activity.

(5,954 posts)Money is the only thing these people understand. As soon as the advertisers flee, Limbaugh's days are numbered.
We should demand that he be fired, and if that doesn't happen, reluctantly "settle" for an ON AIR apology. An apology hidden on his website? Give me a break, we all know that his listeners can't read.

(3,233 posts)Rush did not apologize. He basically implied that she brought his insults upon herself... she was 'absurd' so he was forced to respond with 'absurdity.' Keep leaning on his sponsors. He does not know what decency is."
Beartracks
(12,816 posts)He pretty much said:
"Some people, unfortunately, got upset that I used the word 'slut.' Fluke still expects us to pay for her to sleep around, which is absurd."
His premise that she wants public dollars for contraceptive services to subsidize a slut-like lifestyle -- a premise on which he clearly still bases his comments -- does describe an absurdity. But the absurdity is all his, for it's his own premise, rooted in his own fabrications (and fantasies?) about Fluke and her concerns.
Twisting straight facts into a pretzel and claiming it's an absurd shape -- that's a conservative specialty.

(4,113 posts)I just wish it wouldn't just be limited to this hot button issue on women and birth control.
Limbaugh, Hannity and others in the RW media have been increasingly out of control for decades with their hate mongering which has led to irrational thought processes and violence on people.
Based on history, this will likely just be a short-term cathartic response to an isolated incident from the bloviating idiot we know as Rush Limbaugh.

Listening to his show, no matter the reason, is exactly what the sponsors--the ones still around anyway--want and expect.

(23,691 posts)As I suggested in another thread, Rush is rich enough to buy up all the advertising time on his own. In addition, rich RW republicans will put their own products in the vacant ad spots. After all, the Koch brothers alone have a very diversified corporation.
"Among Koch Industries' subsidiaries across various industries
Georgia-Pacific paper and pulp company, maker of "Brawny" paper towels, "Angel Soft" toilet paper, "Mardi Gras" napkins and towels, "Quilted Northern" toilet paper and paper towels, "Dixie" paper plates, bowls, napkins and cups, "Sparkle" paper towels, and "Vanity Fair" paper napkins, bowls, plates and tablecloths. The Atlanta-based company has operations in 27 states.
Invista, a polymer and fibers company that makes "Stainmaster" carpet, and "Lycra" fiber, among other products.
I am sure there are other mega rich RW thugs who will buy up the advertising, just to keep Rush on the air so he can continue to spew his hate.
tridim
(45,358 posts)We'll see what happens.
It's obvious Rush is getting chewed out by people even more powerful than him, he wouldn't have apologized otherwise. I think his only hope is private (secret) funding, which without disclosure would be against FCC regulations.

I like faxes because I like the idea of an actual paper document in their office for people to see. Here's the fax I sent:
Dear Carbonite,
I wish to thank Carbonites CEO David Friend and the entire Carbonite organization for withdrawing advertising from Rush Limbaugh.
Guess what? I have a mother. I also have a sister, a daughter, and many relatives, friends, and acquaintances who
are women. Rush Limbaugh and his political henchmen have gone too far in their abusive behavior. I salute Carbonite in pro-actively advocating a more civilized public discourse.
I work at San Franciscos largest independently-owned home care store. We use Carbonite for our backup service. I know Carbonite is an excellent product, and a good corporate citizen.
I first became aware of Carbonite (aside from Return of the Jedi) through Stephanie Millers radio show. Please continue supporting Stephanie Miller.
Thank you,
