'Duck Dynasty's' Phil Robertson on Indefinite Hiatus Following Anti-Gay Remarks

Source: Hollywood Reporter

A&E has placed Duck Dynasty patriarch Phil Robertson on indefinite hiatus following anti-gay remarks he made in a recent profile in GQ.

"We are extremely disappointed to have read Phil Robertson’s comments in GQ, which are based on his own personal beliefs and are not reflected in the series Duck Dynasty," A&E said in a statement. "His personal views in no way reflect those of A+E Networks, who have always been strong supporters and champions of the LGBT community. The network has placed Phil under hiatus from filming indefinitely."

The news comes after Robertson compared homosexuality to bestiality in an interview with the magazine.

... GLAAD on Wednesday condemned his remarks as "some of the vilest and most extreme statements uttered against LGBT people in a mainstream publication" and said "his quote was littered with outdated stereotypes and blatant misinformation."

From Facebook

Trish Pirtle--- Here ya go A&E ...There are two verses in the book of Leviticus that refer to homosexual behavior. The first reads, "You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination" (18:22). While the second goes even further: "If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination; they shall be put to death; their blood is upon them" (20:13).

with their excrement, they might not be as valuable a property as one might think. One can sell their kind of vanilla stupid comic relief, but if they start being seen as haters, it could easily turn into something much different.

The 40 mil came from daddy's work and little luck in bird whistles, not anything that the rest of the hanger-ons have contributed, as far as I can tell - then again, I don't pay it much attention. But such success can be fleeting from generation to generation, and kids often drive a perfectly good business into the ground.

Someone should stay tuned, if they care.

It appears the media, took a regular rich family.

Turned them into hillbillies. Then took the hillbillies, and turned them into the beverly hillbillies, one of Americas best known families. It's brilliant really.

This whole episode is likely scripted. Up next phil rob goes to counseling, after the break phil rob meets with the lgbt community etc....

IMO they were created like, oh, let's say The Cowsills since they were a real family who were turned into a phenomenon (and a sordid little story THAT turned out to be!). The shows are little plays, the one liners roll off their tongues almost as if they were (gasp!) scripted. They are a marketing juggernaut the likes of which you seldom see.

But I think they decided they wanted some real influence and that their pecadilloes and problems would catch up with them and did an end run around hem that succeeded wildly. The father confessed and regaled people with how he came to Jesus, the wife forgave, the son confessed some suicidal ideation (and if that's true I feel for the kid) and they got all kinds of kudos from the base.

THEN Phil just had to get comfortable and forget that he was talking to GQ, not the base. I don't know why he'd make that kind of fool statement, but you can hear the wagons circling from here.

Btw the base is hoisting him on an altar and proclaiming him a martyr.

Seriously, I agree it feels bad to censor or condemn anyone, because the things we'd be censored for are positive and honest. His comments are "honest" per se, but potentially harmful. Of course the reason they're censuring, not censoring him is that they want to appear to give a rip while not freaking out the base entirely until the cow is sufficiently milked.

In this case it's this guy off the show spouting off - and while I realize that's his right - like any of us he's got to think before he speaks because sometimes you're held accountable for those words.

I wish this whole thing would turn into a learning experience but sadly I think it's going to just drive a harder wedge between people.

76. Not "because he verbalized his opinion". That's a right-wing talking-point.

He verbalized an opinion that his EMPLOYER did not like.

There is a huge difference.

83. No one is stopping Phil from expressing that opinion. But the reverse is that you can't force

other people to listen to your opinions. Or continue to allow someone on your network who spout opinions you or your audience would rather not hear.

Phil was and still is free to express his opinion. And people can refuse to listen or be subjected to it. That isn't a freedom of speech issue, unless I missed the government action here that restricted his speech.

I don't even remotely agree with Phil on this. But the idea that A&E cannot make him leave the show is pretty weird. Phil 100% gets to have his opinion. Phil 100% cannot force anyone else to agree with his opinion...and those who strongly disagree have the freedom to choose not to associate with him or to listen to him. Just because he can't be on a reality tv show certainly doesn't mean he cannot express his opinion.

I never understand where this weird idea comes from, ie that one person can force another to listen to their opinions. A&E made a business decision to say no to this, and it makes no difference whether Phil, me, you or anyone likes it. Or do people really think that A&E is not similarly entitled to their opinion? Or that they cannot act in accordance with their opinion? If so, then we'd need to not only tell Phil to shut up but to put down his bible and to quit acting in accordance with his opinion. Thankfully for everyone, it doesn't work this way.

Actions might have consequences, but that doesn't even remotely mean one cannot speak their mind.

that we were being played by these people. No way these guys would have the beautiful wives they have looking like they do. This bearded schtick is for the show, period. When the shows over, so's the look. And the constant killing for killing sake. It has become unbearable. That is the real abomination, killing animals for no reason at all. For entertainment value. This show needs to go. Along with Walmart, who in heavily invested in it, and selling their crap to all the inbreds.

When will these dumbass "reality" shows fade away? Scripted voyeurism would be a more accurate description.
