Police implicate, link Klitschko brothers, other opposition members to Chornovol beating suspects

Source: KyivPost

The interior ministry’s chief investigator on Dec. 27 linked opposition lawmaker Vitali Klitschko, his younger brother, heavyweight champion boxer Wladimir Klitschko, as well as several other members of parliament and local lawmakers to the suspects who beat Tetyana Chornovol.

Police currently have five suspects in custody, three of whom are believed to have been directly involved in the Dec. 25 beating of Chornovol.

Mykola Chynchyn, the head of the interior ministry’s investigation department, said that the Klitschko brothers were closely associated with the same organized crime syndicate of which one of the suspects, Oleksandr Kotenko, had allegedly been a member.

In a Dec. 27 statement, he said that Kotenko was a member of the Borys Savlokhov gang, which was part of the Viktor Rybalko organized crime group. The Klitschko brothers allegedly were closely involved in Rybalko’s organization, according to Chynchyn. Rybalko was killed in 2005.

Through his UDAR party website, Vitali Klitschko vehemently denied the link and said he will sue Chynchyn for slander, libel and defamation of character. He furthermore called the accusations deceitful and baseless.

"Instead of conducting an objective investigation and finding the real perpetrators of the crime, (including) those who gave the orders to beat Tetyana Chornovol, the office of (Interior Minister Vitaliy) Zakharchenko has resorted to the usual provocations and actually is covering up for the criminals,” stated Vitali Klitschko. “Thus, we will speak in court with those who were entrusted to voice lies and nonsense.”

The nation’s chief investigator also said that opposition lawmaker Mykola Kniazhytsky and David Zhvania, a member of parliament who quit the ruling Party of Regions after the Nov. 30 police beatings of protesters, were connected to suspect Serhiy Kotenko, the 29-year-old younger brother of Oleksandr Kotenko.

Serhiy Kotenko was as of July the director of and 40 percent owner of a company that is the license holder of TVi, a television outlet that until April was known for its investigations of high-level corruption. In April a new group of owners took over the muckraking television channel, which for three months underwent a swirl of ownership changes.

Happened on the 25th :

Outrage as Ukrainian opposition journalist found roughly beaten near Kiev.

A road police patrol found the badly beaten opposition journalist, Tetyana Chornovil, in a ditch outside Kiev. Ukrainian authorities, leaders of the opposition and foreign officials are demanding an immediate and thorough investigation into the crime.

On Wednesday night, law enforcement officers found a Chevrolet Aveo ‘parked’ in a ditch on the highway connecting the Ukrainian capital and Borispol international airport. Inside the car, they found journalist Tetyana Chornovi, who had been badly beaten up. They immediately took her to a hospital for treatment.

A video later showed an unconscious woman with bruising over half her face, swollen lips and cuts across her cheeks. Medics applied several stitches to the journalist’s face and said she had suffered concussion and multiple broken bones. The 34-year-old journalist might require at least three operations.

By evening, Chornovil was still said to be in a serious condition, the ‘Ukrainian News’ news agency reported. Still she managed to make several comments about the incident, and a criminal investigation was immediately launched.

identified the car, not the perpetrators themselves (or it would be a much simpler case).

Meanwhile, Doubts rising over investigation into Chornovol attack:

From here on the story becomes murkier. On Wednesday, Interior Minister Vitaliy Zakharchenko announced that two men involved in the attack had been detained, and the third was wanted for questioning. In typical mode, no suggestion was made of any doubt in the matter.
(...)
During the day on Thursday it became clear that Khramtsov has not only two friends willing to account for every moment of the time required for an alibi, but also CCTV footage from the restaurant in which they spent the time.
The other person detained, Andriy Nasikovsky, also denies any involvement, and claims he has an alibi.
(...)
The Porsche Cayenne was found abandoned in the area, which was the stupidest thing that two people could do, namely Khramtsov or Kotenko. There was a miniscule chance that Chornovol would have seen and memorized the number plate. It was the video register that recorded this, and if people known to have a connection with the car knew of its existence, it is unclear why they didn’t simply remove it.

Beck would take a random letter from one word and point out that there's another word that begins with that letter with a bad connotation (something like "Beck" ends with k, which is the first letter in kakistocracy, so we have to watch out for politicians Beck supports).

That Beck is a real huckster. He reminds me of this guy . . .

There is a difference between Mr. Beck and Professor Hill. In the end, Professor Hill had more class than even he thought he had.

we are talking about two heavy weight professional boxers here. Not many people could survive being attacked by people who are trained and paid to hit others that are trained the same way. Your average person wouldn't stand a chance.
