Kerry: US will support Iraq, but without troops

Source: AP-Excite

By DEB RIECHMANN

JERUSALEM (AP) - U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said Sunday that the United States will support Iraq's fight against al-Qaida-linked militants who have overrun two cities, but won't send in American troops.

Kerry said the militants are trying to destabilize the region and undermine a democratic process in Iraq, and that the U.S. is in contact with tribal leaders in Anbar province who are standing up to the terrorists.

But, he said, "this is a fight that belongs to the Iraqis. That is exactly what the president and the world decided some time ago when we left Iraq, so we are not obviously contemplating returning. We are not contemplating putting boots on the ground. This is their fight. ... We will help them in their fight, but this fight, in the end, they will have to win and I am confident they can."

Al-Qaida linked gunmen have largely taken over the cities of Fallujah and Ramadi in an uprising that has been a blow to the Shiite-led government of Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki. Bombings in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, killed at least 20 people Sunday.

... their tail numbers will not be engraved on a wall.

But, we still have a hundred marines protecting the embassy, and probably many times that number in State Dept contract mercenaries. Hopefully, we won't dispatch any of them to Fallujah to "help".

Me and mine have lost a lot of friends and comrades in that fucking war. Another group after we got home. Maybe youve heard about the suicide epidemic. Your comments are not any better than any freeper bullshit.

You probably want to consider deleting your posts. They definitely violate the terms here.

Since you seem to be seeing something that's not there I will explain for you. My first response was to imply that even though we don't or won't be having troops on the ground there they can and very well may use drones. The second implication of that is that we may yet be at war there by proxy of drones. So then the US gov can say that we are not at war there but yet still be at war there ....without actual troops on the ground. So comes the "drones are people" too remark. Sorry you are having a tough time and I will take your personal attack on me (Try not to be a dick = tos violation) as a symptom of your involvement with an illegal war that you and everyone else was lied into.

positions - like his - with SA. I guess you missed people like McCain including wrecking our relations with SA when he called Kerry "a human wrecking ball". As one who wants McCain's policies destroyed, there is no better compliment.

Note Kerry pushing back on both Iran and Syria. We have no idea what he is saying now - but it seems odd you have a problem with the SoS speaking to any world leader.

I watched the whole thing play out. What I said was meant for folks who Emphatically tell me were done in Iraq, beyond any reason of a doubt as they shove PO's laundry list of accomplishments in my face. I would take them more seriously if they could at least be honest about the situation.
