'Jihad Jane' gets 10-year term

The Montgomery County woman who supported violent jihadists under the online screen name "Jihad Jane" was sentenced to 10 years in federal prison Monday.
U.S. District Court Judge Petrese B. Tucker described acts undertaken by Colleen LaRose - including plotting the assassination in 2009 of a Danish cartoonist who had offended some Muslims - as "gravely serious."
But Tucker declined to impose a multi-decade sentence sought by prosecutors.
Pleading for clemency, LaRose, wearing a dark headscarf and green prison jumpsuit, said she remained committed to Islam but has since rejected violent jihad.

(29,503 posts)She seemed mentally ill even BEFORE the trial; after learning about her background, I'm of the firm opinion that she definitely needs counseling of some sort to work out all that she's gone through.

(135,425 posts)I think the fact that she had a messed up life worked in her favor, plus, she provided assistance to law enforcement after her arrest.
It's an appropriate sentence.
