Incoming NJ Assembly speaker to renew the subpoena power of panel in GWB scandal

Source: North Jersey News.com

The incoming Assembly speaker says he'll call a special session next week to renew the subpoena power of the panel investigating the George Washington Bridge lane closures.

The chairman of the committee leading that investigation said this morning that he cannot issue any new subpoenas until his authority is renewed. It officially expires on Monday, the final day of the legislative session. Hours later, Vincent Prieto, the Democratic assemblyman who takes over as speaker on Tuesday, issued a statement promising to renew the subpoena power in a special session on Thursday.

"The documents released this week related to the George Washington Bridge situation clearly show the need for a continued thorough investigation by the New Jersey General Assembly. Many questions remain unanswered about this threat to public safety and abuse of power," Prieto said.

This, combined with Governor Soprano having to pull the nomination of his chief of staff as NJ attorney general, means that he won't be able shut down the investigation on a state level. I not only believe that he knew what was going on, but that he masterminded it down to even these details. The detail he overlooked was that getting the Port Authority of New York AND New Jersey involved made Bridge(t)-gate eligible for federal investigation.

It establishes that you think he's a thug without making a body reference. I think I will borrow it.

I think that this guy saw the political pressure that would be headed his way if he denied the committee subpoena power and did the right thing

I've read that he is a little too deferential to Christie and may not have renewed the subpoenas if not for the bombshell.

There is a school of thought that Christie was trying to run the clock out till this guy got in.

____________

Tony probably considered that New Jersey would not be found out as involved since it was their man in the PANY that triggered the lane bridge shutdown....but that was found out when his Deputy Chief's email was discovered.

Dowd's nomination is for the 'permanent' AG slot.

Until Christie pull's Dowd's AG nomination it will remain pending in the State Senate.

Because after all, this is just a little matter that is handled amongst
gentlemen, isn't it?

Call up the Governor of New York and ask him to lighten up.

Well, they impeached Governor Gray Davis

Time to even the score.

Not that there is much that could be done about it. I just hope the air isn't let out of the investigation.
