Michigan GOP official: ‘Herd all the Indians’ to Detroit, build a fence and throw in corn

A Republican county official in Michigan is in hot water after making racial comments about Detroit, including the idea that the city should be turned into a detention center for “all the Indians.”

In a recent interview for a profile by The New Yorker titled “Drop Dead, Detroit!” Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson admitted, “Anytime I talk about Detroit, it will not be positive. Therefore, I’m called a Detroit basher. The truth hurts, you know? Tough sh*t.”

Patterson recalled telling his children to “get in and get out” if they needed to go to Detroit.

“And, before you go to Detroit, you get your gas out here. You do not, do not, under any circumstances, stop in Detroit at a gas station! That’s just a call for a carjacking,” he said.

Patterson also proposed a fix to Detroit’s financial problems: Turn the city into a reservation for Native Americans.

...for years and years, and they're about the only "industry" in the downtown area. Greektown, MGM Grand, and others.

Ontario's big casino is cleaner, looser slots, better designed, and feels a whole lot safer in the surrounding environment.

I'm a displaced Detroit-city-boy, and was appalled when I saw the condition of the downtown area a couple years ago. It still looked a bombed out war zone.

And shame on that jackass politician. American Indians OWNED Michigan long before the WASPs stole it from them. Michigan cities, towns, lakes, and even my own house street were PROUDLY named after AIs.

And I'm not aware of the last time a republican did something positive for Detroit. I'm not inclined to fault the city or its population for the problems of the auto industry, and I have serious problems with the military dictator "emergency manager" approach that Rick Snyder has taken. If anything, maybe the republican legislators in our state should be thrown into Dertroit, along with printouts of the 80,000 abortion laws that they have passed in the last few years.
