Katy man indicted in December hate crime

A 27-year-old Katy man has been indicted for a federal hate crime, accused of videotaping himself punching a 79-year-old black man as part of a "knockout game."
The indictment handed down Thursday by a federal grand jury formalizes the charges against Conrad Barrett, who was arrested in December.
Barrett, who is white, faces 10 years in federal prison for allegedly assaulting the elderly man in a mall parking lot in November. He had spent the week prior to the attack driving around west Harris County "hunting for African-Americans to prey on," prosecutors said in court.
A federal judge in Decmber denied bail for Barrett as he awaits trial.
George Parnham, Barrett's attorney, has said in court that Barrett has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and was off his medication when he used his cell phone to record an apparently random attack.

(30,058 posts)Doing this to white people and this time it was a white targeting a black who he thought may not be
able to defend himself. Parnham us the attorney in the Yates case where the children were killed. There is a mental issue in that case but perhaps he is going to go for "Stupid" while committing a crime. Barrett was stupid after the crime when he shared the information and video with a couple and the man contacted authorities.
