Senate headed for another 'nuclear' fight

Source: The Hill

February 12, 2014, 06:00 am

By Jasmine Sachar

A controversial White House nominee for a human rights position is headed for a “nuclear” fight on the Senate floor.

Citing ethical concerns, Senate Republicans have balked at confirming Keith Harper, a former fundraiser for President Obama who has been nominated to the United Nations Human Rights Council.

The Senate Foreign Relations Committee voted last week to move forward with Harper’s nomination in a party-line vote. It is unclear when lawmakers will debate the nominee on the Senate floor, but it is shaping up as a partisan battle.
Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) has said Harper is unqualified to serve and cited inconsistencies in his communication with Congress.

He is so far out of his league these days. He really needs to go home and graze in the pasture until the end comes.

I don't wish him any ill will. I wish him a good retirement but for heaven's sake please stop torturing the world with your continued babble and nonsense.

3. Could we stop worrying about all these patronage appointees

and concentrate on judges? I want to fill EVERY vacancy in every court in the land. Pissing away time arguing over a UN Human's Rights position when the admin don't give a rat's ass about the UN or human rights is a waste of time.

8. We control the senate

we control the judiciary committee. We decide what judges come up for a vote. By wasting time on other appointees, we are NOT appointing judges.

Appoint all the judges first, then come back to the patronage jobs.

4. "Controversial" because every Republican blockade is reported by the press as if Republicans

were simply not against it because Obama is for it.

The brain dead self serving mass media are the ones ginning up the "controversy" to keep eyeballs on them.

7. John McCain has no business talking about whether anyone is qualified to serve.

He has never been qualified to serve in anything he has ever served in. . He wasn't even qualified to go to Annapolis, where he finished near the bottom of his class. He wasn't qualified to fly jets in the Navy but he did. He wasn't qualified to run for President, but he did. He isn't qualified to be a US Senator, not even from Arizona, but he is.

He isn't even qualified to serve coffee.
