One of the nicest guys I ever met in politics. My grandmother was involved in the Democratic "Minnesota Mafia" as far back as the 1940s. How exactly she got involved, I never knew, but she was acting as a NY fundraiser for HHH's first senatorial campaign in 1948, and Fritz was one of his protégés. He and my dad used to hang out at the Senate Press Gallery all the time, and were still on a close first name basis when Mondale was VP. I met him "again" as Carter's VP in 1977, though I had run into him many times as a kid, and once even on my college campus.
