Wife of Tennessee lawyer dies after Monday's mail bomb explosion
Source: CNN
(CNN) -- The wife of the retired Tennessee lawyer who was killed this week when a mail bomb detonated outside their home has died, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said Thursday.
Marion Setzer, 72, died Wednesday evening at Vanderbilt Hospital.
Her husband, John Setzer, was killed Monday when the package exploded, shattering windows across the street from their rural Tennessee house.
Amid the debris, investigators found a note they said they believe was attached to the bomb; authorities would not divulge its contents.
This is a very important piece of evidence, because now you may have handwriting," said former ATF agent and bomb expert Joseph Vince.
Officials said Setzer, 74, picked up the package on Monday from his mailbox, about 200 yards from the house. As he approached the front of the house, it detonated, killing him and initially critically wounding his wife.
"It doesn't make sense at all," family friend Ken Caldwell told CNN affiliate WTVF. "When I've heard it said that it was targeted, I thought, well, they must have targeted the wrong person."

The other neighbors are worried. People think they may have gone after the wrong person.
No one can figure out why this country lawyer would be a target

He had it in his hands, approaching the house. Was it remotely detonated? Then someone must have been watching...

(41,832 posts)Friends and neighbors described Jon and Marion Setzer as kind, giving and devout.
They lived in a nice home in a semi-rural area of Lebanon, about 40 minutes outside of Nashville, and attended a local church. Jon Setzer was an attorney who handled wills and trusts, but he had been in very ill health in recent years.
Friends said he was on dialysis and had heart problems and high blood pressure, among other health issues.
Marion Setzer had formerly worked as a dental hygienist.
A blast at their home on Monday at about 5 p.m. killed Jon Setzer immediately and critically injured Marion Setzer, who died at the hospital on Wednesday.
"We are just dazed by what happened," Nashville attorney John Stark said. "Jon was one of the good guys. He was a good lawyer. He taught Sunday school."
Stark, who said he's known the Setzers for more than 30 years and attended church with them, described the former lawyer as quiet and humble man.
