Chelsea Clinton: ‘We have a lot more work to do’ for LGBT rights
Source: Las Vegas Sun
Chelsea Clinton stepped to the podium at the Ballys Events Center to the tune of Macklemore and Ryan Lewis hit rap song Same Love.
The rap song about equal rights for lesbians and gays set the stage for the message she delivered Sunday to the youth service professionals at the inaugural Time to Thrive national conference addressing safety, inclusion and well-being for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning youth. The conference was put on by the Human Rights Campaign, a civil rights organization fighting for equality for the LGBT community.
We should not mistake progress for success, Clinton said, because we have a lot more work to do.
... Its my hope that if we all continue to work together, Clinton said, "in the not-too-distant future, every child whether LGBTQ or straight can go to sleep every night knowing they are safe and secure, and dream about who they want to be, where they want to live and who they want to love without those dreams being shadowed.

You seem to have a problem with that.

(12,595 posts)actually). I'm so glad that for most people those days are gone. I guess some people hang on to past attitudes. Too bad for them - not the child.

(53,661 posts)...On his popular radio program today, the beloved entertainer Rush Limbaugh once again endorsed our little "leftist gay gossip site..."
Rushyou are welcome to come hang out with us here at Gawker HQ any time! You could be our celebrity intern for a day? Or we could just hang out and smoke cigars and have a Pharm Party, whatever you want...
RUSH: "You know, I don't often go there unless I am directed there, but there's a gossip website out there that's just hilarious. I love these guys at Gawker. They make up stuff about me all the time. They're snarky as they can be about me, but for some reason I love these guys, and here's why. Here's a post at Gawker.com: "The former head of Britain's intelligence service says that the three-headed monster known as Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld fetishized, and were inspired by, Jack Bauer's torture techniques. Quoted in British newspaper The Independent, former MI5 chief Dame Eliza said: 'Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld certainly watched 24' and that 'the Americans were very keen that people like us did not discover what they were doing.'
So the Gawker guys love putting news out that Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld learned everything they know about torture from "24," and that some idiot that used to run MI5 is out there saying so. You guys at Gawker, you're priceless. We love you here at the EIB Network. When asked by the reporter if this was true, a senior Pentagon official said, 'We are not aware of their television habits.' The official was not asked (laughing) This is ridiculous. The official was not asked about rumors that we have just made up that the three men were involved in some kind of torture-watching circle [you know what].(laughing) Folks, a cautionary thing, be very careful going to Gawker. You're going to get the wrong idea about me if you go there. You have to have the right attitude. You gotta have an irreverent side to not get bugged by what you see there. So you have been warned."

Note the warning to not stray from the Cult of Rush there. He's been calling his little hate fest the EIB and says that his 'talent is on loan from God' for over twenty years. Also called Chelsea a 'dog,' Obama 'the magic negro' and started the 'death panels' as he attacked Hillary about health care reform. He made DADT sound like the end of the world, and his opinions on gays since then with Obama don't bear repeating.
Now, I'm sure you want to take a shower...

No one, least of all Bill Clinton, would say that DADT was a fair and just law. It enshrined bigotry, and I wrote extensively on this site about the complex legal process it would take to repeal it....and it did take a long time, far too long.
But Bill Clinton didn't advocate for the passage of this law because he hated gays...he thought, and many people along with him, that this was a step up from imprisonment. It was also the best godamn deal he was going to get, given the Strom Thurmond led opposition. I'm old enough to remember the hearings.....they made me weep.

(53,956 posts)I don't have a problem with posters hating/disliking Bill and Hillary, I don't, but whatever. But Chelsea? It is especially disheartening when it is something as important as GLBT equality, and given this week (defenders of Russia, Uganda, Nigeria, TN, KS), this just leaves an even more sour taste in my mouth.

(1,540 posts)I know that she is being groomed for a political career, following in her parents footsteps and I appreciate her defending gay rights.
After Chelsea's background of residing in the Whitehouse, her outstanding education along with world travel, I expected her to enter a more caring profession rather than the HedgeFund. I admired her as she, at such a young age became the glue keeping her parents together, yet I have not seen nor heard of any actions or deeds that she has given back to any one group or organization.
My children and grandchildren who have far less to offer their communities, have provide more than Ms Chelsea has.
