Venezuela threatens to expel CNN over protest coverage

Source: BBC

Venezuela's President Nicolas Maduro has threatened to expel the US news network CNN from the country over its reporting of recent protests there.

Mr Maduro said he would take action if CNN did not "rectify its coverage".

Earlier, Mr Maduro said he was sending troops to the western state of Tachira, where there has been continuing unrest.

With tensions running high, the leader of the opposition, Henrique Capriles, has called for a fresh, peaceful anti-government march on Saturday.

Mr Maduro also lashed out against the coverage of the protests by foreign news organisations.

"Enough war propaganda, I won't accept war propaganda against Venezuela. If they don't rectify themselves, out of Venezuela, CNN, out," he said.

A spokeswoman for the US network, only available on cable in Venezuela, told the BBC it did not have any immediate comments about Mr Maduro's comments.

2. It means: calling the MSM on its bias.

That's all it means, nothing more.
Not that the US MSM will suddenly change. Haha! Christ no! The US MSM has been identical on these issues right through the atrocities of Vietnam, the Reagan years, Kissinger's depravities, and on and on. The US MSM will *never* change.

7. The sad part is that this blackout hurts the poorest the most.

The poorer people are going to go outside and into the streets to see what is going on when the President should be telling people to stay inside and not contribute to mass protest.

The wealthy can just look on social media because they can afford internet.

There is a line item in Obama's budget to fund opposition parties in Venezuela. We are creating havoc in Venezuela. They have every right to throwout the people who are trying to overthrow their elected leaders.

The leader of the opposition lost the election big time and can never get elected because of his elitist background. He is a member of the 1% and was educated at Harvard. So, now he lost and wants to illegally gain the presidential position with the help of the Obama administration and OUR TAX DOLLARS.

Why Obama hates the socialist government of Venezuela is obvious. Don't be fooled by the propaganda. Democracy Now has an excellent piece on this. http://www.democracynow.org/2014/2/20/venezuelan_protests_another_attempt_by_us

13. Well it is interesting that these so called citizen protests are happening now.

Now when Venezuela's crime rate has dropped and when products are not as scarce as they use to be. Crime rates and availability of goods needs to improve, but they are not as bad as they were prior to the election in December. An election that even the opposition party agreed that the current president garnered many more votes than anyone expected.

What is happening is the ruling elite, the top 1 % of Venezuelan society, in conjunction with US ruling elites, are unhappy with a fair election and they want to overthrow a democratically elected government. Just like they did with Pinochet and Chile. They want to put the uber rich back in charge and have enough money to spew propaganda that some citizens are buying into. Don't forget the Butcher of Chile also had some average citizen support.

It is interesting that the leader of the opposition party is from the ruling elites and was educated at Harvard. He never had a chance in hell of winning a fair election and now the uber rich are upset. They are manipulating with their money and US support some of Venezuela's citizens.

The protests started, ironically, against the lack of security in the country set off by the murder of a former Miss Venezuela and her husband just a few weeks back. After murders have risen each and every year during the last 15 years, the Ven gov actually had to confront the fact of the uncontrolled violence. However, their response was less than encouraging. Maduro blames soap operas. (Adding insult to injury, the Miss Ven murdered was a soap star). Previous blame for the high murder rate and crime have been leveled against Spiderman.

Lopez the one who was just arrested, without cause, did not run against Maduro. Capriles did and only lost by 1%.

Your post is 100% total made up bullshit.

What is not bullshit is the chavista stormtroopers shooting and killing protesters.

16. Sorry, but I don't subscribe to the notion that this is all the fault of the US,

and the conditions inside of Venezuela are not getting better, inflation is at 56% and not getting any better.
Venezuela has the worst violent crime rate in latin america, that's what actually started this whole shebang, a woman was raped and the police, instead of finding who did it, arrested a bunch of protesters who were calling for the government to do something about the crime rate.

More and more foreign companies are pulling out of Venezuela due to the threat of violence or the gov. threat of nationalization.

Top it off with the insane monetary policies of the gov. and you have what's happening now.

They did this in Iraq for years. They decided having "access" to the country was more important that reporting what happened.
