Ariz. business leaders call for veto of anti-gay religious freedom bill

Source: ASSOCIATED PRESS

PHOENIX — Arizona’s biggest business advocacy group is calling on Gov. Jan Brewer to veto a bill allowing business owners with strongly held religious beliefs to refuse service to gays.

The legislation passed last week has triggered a national backlash from supporters of gay rights, and the Arizona Chamber of Commerce and Industry is among business groups requesting a veto.

The chamber said Monday the bill could hurt tourism, make it hard to recruit new businesses and open the door to lawsuits against businesses. But conservative groups supporting the legislation are pushing back and hoping Brewer signs it in to law.

U.S. Sens. John McCain and Jeff Flake have both said they hope Brewer vetoes the bill, as have Arizona’s Secretary of State Ken Bennett and Treasurer Doug Ducey, both GOP candidates for governor.

Ok if the Arizona Chamber of Commerce is against this stupid and quite possibly unconstitutional law, then how the hell did it even get out of committee. The Chamber of Commerce is always one of the most powerful lobbying groups in all of the State Legislatures so did the Legislature just go rogue and ignore them. Has Arizona completely lost its mind? Can Jan Brewer run again, if not she should veto this bill as soon as it gets to her desk.

Sign the bill into law, please, please, please. It's important that you let your supporters know that their interests aren't nearly as important to you as the ideals of the Grand Ole Party!

I want you to stand strong, girl! Stick to your guns. Seriously. The world has to know that at least one stalwart woman believes that it is way more important for a bakery to be able to refuse cake to a potential customer, for a movie theater to bar entrance to certain people who might do lord knows what in the dark, and for doctors to turn away people who might have the Aids -- than for her Party to attract voters and win elections.

Please don't listen to the naysayers, Jan. You got the finger, dammit! Just wag it at them.
