New Jersey lawmaker: Chris Christie ‘needs to think about resigning’

Assemblywoman Bonnie Watson Coleman, a 12th District congressional candidate and a member of the committee investigating the George Washington Bridge scandal tonight called on the governor to consider resigning over his staff's role in the controversy.

Watson Coleman was discussing newly released text messages between former Port Authority of New York and New Jersey official David Wildstein and Bridget Kelly, former deputy chief of staff in which the pair disparage a rabbi and jokingly discuss creating traffic problems outside his house.

"And this really is what they're all about, transactional deals, dismissiveness, remarks that are totally, totally unacceptable in a civilized society, Watson Coleman said during an appearance on MSNBC. "And you know what? The governor needs to think about resigning, and he needs to take all his friends with him because this is sickening."

Asked by host Al Sharpton why the governor should go when there has so far been no smoking gun to implicate him in the scandal, Watson Coleman said the governor is responsible for the actions of his staff.

The investigation – resulting in six convictions – involved embezzlement, money laundering and staffers mixing state business with a campaign effort to get Walker, then a Milwaukee county executive, to the governor’s mansion.

The longer this drags out without a "smoking gun" the better Christie's chances of not just surviving... but surviving to look like the man who walked through the "Liberal" fire of persecution and came out on top. Just you wait and see.

Unless Wildstein has something that can be directly pinned on Governor My Way, he will skate.

Republicans don't resign. They have no shame and no remorse.

There is a NYS side to the bridge too. Why the crickets from Cuomo's office? How does this go down on the anniversary of 9/11 without DHS knowing about and contacting t he governors of both states to see what's going on. These are the bigger questions that are not even being touched. WHY?

said this very thing, not the exact phrasing, but he's gonna walk and run for POTUS and possibly be POTUS. Yep, just wait and see.

which was his dream. He may serve out his term as governor but the ads accusing him of negligence in who he surrounded himself with write themselves. His career is over.

I think the far right wants him out so bad that they'll attach to anything that will pull him under the water ahead of the nomination. He's buoyant, but not that buoyant. They'll latch them weighted chains to his heels faster than you can say 'toll road'.

He's not going to resign over anything with Bridgegate. On the other hand, if the U.S. Attorney's office comes up with something, that could all change in a heartbeat.

10. New Jersey Democrat quits panel after Chris Christie remarks

Feb 2014

A New Jersey Democrat stepped down from the so-called “Bridgegate” investigation committee Friday after coming under fire for calling on GOP Gov. Chris Christie to consider resigning over the traffic jam scandal.

Republicans had pointed to the talk of Christie’s resignation as evidence that the Democratic-led panel may not be able to run a fair investigation into the controversy, which has been linked to aides and allies of Christie and threatened his potential presidential ambitions in 2016.
