Will defend every inch of territory, China warns neighbours

Source: Press Trust of India

In a stern message to its neighbours, China on Saturday said it is determined to defend "every inch" of its territory and there was "no room for compromise" with Japan over territorial or historical disputes.

"We will not take anything that is not ours, but we will defend every inch of territory that belongs to us," Chinese foreign minister Wang Yi told media persons in his annual press conference on the sidelines of the ongoing National People's Congress (NPC) session.

The minister also called for an early resumption of the six-party talks on North Korea's nuclear weapons programme.

Describing the nuclear issue as the "crux of the matter," Wang said, "First, we need climb the slope of denuclearization. Only with denuclearization can the Korean Peninsula have genuine and lasting peace."

My ex-wife is Chinese and grew up during the Cultural revolution. we both love China, it's culture, food, art, and we both have dear friends there.

Wang Yi is a ass, but a typical Chinese functionary.
Do not turn one's back on the Chinese government.

As if that needs saying.

Next round's on U.S.; Obama to deliver on beer bet with Canada

(Reuters) - The United States defused a brewing, and cordial, crisis with Canada on Friday, after Prime Minister Stephen Harper joked that Barack Obama has yet to deliver the beer he promised if the U.S. hockey teams lost to Canada in the Olympics.

The White House responded the president does not welsh on his bets.

"In fairness to President Obama, he's lost bets to me before, and he's always paid up before," Harper said to laughter from his interviewers on TSN 1050 Radio in Toronto. "I'm sure he will."

About half of its GDP is fixed capital formation (buildings, factories, roads, bridges, tunnels, etc.) versus a more typical 15-20% in a somewhat more developed country.

Thus, about a third of China's labour force is at risk of unemployment - which would be a fairly serious problem for the Party.

Therefore, distractions are needed. Japan is the easiest target, but others will suffice in a pinch. Look for China to become far more assertive over the next several years as the situation becomes more difficult.

and the Okinawans have pretty much settled with us to stay but to move a large part of our operations to a less conspicuous location.

Oh, and the Vietnamese invited one of our carrier task forces to make a port call at Cam Rahn Bay. I read that the local dignitaries really liked the luncheon followed by a demonstration of carrier take-off and landing techniques. A good time was had by all.

The end of history is not upon us.

Thanks for your informative post.
