U.S. Supreme Court Won't Stop Texas Execution Over Drug

Source: Associated Press

HUNTSVILLE, Texas (AP) -- The U.S. Supreme Court said Thursday that it won't stop the execution of a Texas serial killer whose attorneys want the state to release information about where it gets its lethal injection drug.

The plea to the high court from Tommy Lynn Sells' lawyers was rejected about an hour before his scheduled execution Thursday evening. They made it after a federal appeals court allowed the execution to remain on schedule. A lower court had stayed the execution Wednesday, ordering Texas to reveal more information about its drug supplier, but the ruling was quickly tossed on appeal.

"It is not in the public interest for the state to be allowed to be deceptive in its efforts to procure lethal injection drugs," Sells' attorneys told the high court.

The appeal was one of two that the justices rejected. Another before the court since last month asked for the punishment to be stopped to review whether Sells' legal help at his trial was deficient, and whether a court improperly denied him money to hire investigators to conduct a probe about his background.

but Tommy Lynn Sells is one of the most evil humans imaginable. I wouldn't be sad if he slipped in the shower and cracked his skull.

Sells has claimed to have killed upwards of 70 people, In July 1985, when he was 21 years old, Sells was working at a carnival in Forsyth, Missouri. He met Ena Cordt, 28, who had brought her 4-year-old son to the carnival.[4] Cordt invited Sells back to her home that same evening. According to Sells, he had sex with Cordt, but he awoke during the night to find her stealing from his backpack. Seizing her son's baseball bat, he beat her to death. He also murdered her son because he was a potential witness. The bludgeoned bodies were found three days later, by which time Sells had left town.

Sells is also suspected as the perpetrator in the following crimes:

The murder of Suzanne Korcz in New York during May 1987
The November 1987 murder of the Dardeen family in Illinois
The murder of 11-year-old Melissa Tremblay in Lawrence, Massachusetts in September 1988
The murder of 13-year-old Stephanie Mahaney near Springfield, Missouri in 1997
Killing a co-worker in Texas during April 1998
The murder of 13-year-old Katy Harris in Texas in 1999
The sexual assault and murder of 13-year-old Haley McHone in Lexington, KY

Sells is believed to have committed at least 22 murders. Retired Texas Ranger John Allen states, "We did confirm 22... I know there's more. I know there's a lot more. Obviously, we won't ever know"

People like him were part of Hitler's SS and I suspect part of the CIA

The problem in trying to manage someone like him, is trying to keep a leash on his efforts.

In their drug argument, Sells' attorneys argued they needed to know the name of the pharmacy now providing the state with pentobarbital used during executions in order to verify the drug's quality and protect Sells from unconstitutional pain and suffering.

I can easily see why the courts tossed this appeal.

The retention of the death penalty, no matter how evil the condemned, is one reason I break out in guffaws when someone uses the word "civilized" to refer to Americans.

Convicted serial killer Tommy Lynn Sells, who was sent to prison in 1999 and claimed responsibility for dozens of murders across the country, was executed Thursday in Texas.

Sells, 49, was convicted of killing 13-year-old Katy Harris while she slept in her Del Rio, Texas, home. Her murder landed Sells on death row, but he has been linked to at least 17 other killings and claims he has killed as dozens more.

Sells declined to make final remarks before his death, then took a few breaths, closed his eyes and began to snore as the lethal-injection drugs took effect, The Associated Press reported. He soon stopped moving and was pronounced dead 13 minutes later at 6:27 p.m. CT.
