6 suspended amid Missouri school rape allegations

KANSAS CITY, Mo. Months after vowing to boost security at a Kansas City school where a student says she was dragged to a room and raped, district officials have suspended six employees amid new allegations from a 14-year-old girl who alleges a boy repeatedly raped her at school.
The girl in the latest case, who the police report describes as autistic, told authorities the 14-year-old boy raped her on numerous occasions over the last month at Southwest Early College Campus while a 13-year-old girl stood in the hall as a lookout. The boy and the alleged lookout were charged Wednesday in juvenile court with one count each of rape and sodomy and ordered to remain detained Friday.
The school district began its own investigation after learning of the new allegations Wednesday. Kansas City Public Schools Superintendent R. Stephen Green said in a statement released Thursday the district has placed a number of school employees on administrative leave and that other personnel could be put on leave depending on the outcome of the districts probe.
Once the investigation is complete, a final decision will be made about whether they will continue as employees of KCPS or will be dismissed, Green said in his statement.

(5 posts)What is going ON in that school? That sounds like some sort of sick fiction story. I wish it WAS.
This kind of news (bad) comes out of this district every year though usually not THIS bad. The school board is atrocious and they have a revolving door at the superintendent's office. The problems start and end at the top as there are many dedicated and good teachers in the class room.

(5,754 posts)Folks who are serious about education moved to the Kansas side, but now Brownback is cutting schools every year. Soon folks who are serious about education will be leaving the KC area in droves. My guess is it's already happening. None of my good students have stayed in the area.

Why were these boys charged as juveniles, btw?

(22,000 posts)The current case is a male and female. The female was the lookout. I don't get how she would stand there and be a lookout for him while he's doing that. Obviously she knew what was going on and could probably hear, yet she covered for the male student.
The article says the school has had other instances of rape, which is why they are talking about two "boys".
I have no idea how the law works in Missouri. One of the males in the older case was 15. If I had to guess they are probably both considered too young. The age must be 16 or 17 to be tried as an adult.
