Residents question why Latta(SC) mayor fired the town's first female(gay) police chief

Source: WBTW

The Mayor of the Town Of Latta fired the town's Police Chief on Tuesday. News13 was there as Moore, the first female chief of Latta, packed her belongings and left her office late Tuesday afternoon.

Dozens of supports rallied outside of Latta Town Hall Wednesday in support of fired Latta Police Chief Crystal Moore. "This woman has been a veteran of the department and a pillar of this community for years," said Kevin Drawhorn, a Latta resident and supporter of Moore.
.....

Councilman Jared Taylor recorded Mayor Bullard saying he "doesn't agree with some lifestyles."

Part of the conversation says: "I would much rather have someone who drank and drank too much taking care of my child than I have somebody who's lifestyle is questionable around children. Because that ain't the damn way it supposed to be," the mayor is heard on a recording saying he "doesn't agree with some lifestyles."

The audio of mayor is sickening. That said it's heartening to see the town rally around her. Let's be honest the last place you would expect to see this happen is in a rural, small town in South Carolina.

he issued 7 reprimands as the reason for the firing: all 7 of them as he fired her after her over 20 years on the job. the mayor would rather have a drunk taking care of his kids than a gay person.
i don't think this will end well for the mayor, and that is good news for equal rights in this country.

in other local news, a child found a gun in the back seat of a car and killed a young woman sitting in the front passenger seat. one step forward, two steps back.

Good to see the reaction of the community though. Hopefully the mayor will lose this battle.

too often.

That ahat mayor's attitude is predominate, among the over 30 aged natives here. If you fit a "lesbian" stereotype, you are going to have issues, even if you are not even gay! Their joy in "outing" you, over rides any sensibility that you are not gay, and they are hurting "one of their own" ...

That said, due to the business influx, and the lack of skills needed by corps that come here, there are many out of stater's here that will bring it, and the younger people are tired of their parents ignorance, are willing to make a stand.

Just like with the kkksters, the worst are those that do sneaky dirty deeds but show their faces in church every sunday.

Sounds like he was pissed at her for investigating his bad pick for the Parks Dept., and then he is very openly anti-gay. If this guy considers himself a christian, I can't fathom why he'd be okay with a "drunk" considering the bible is very clear that drunkards should be shunned.
