Pennies from Heaven and The Long Good Friday are essential works of art.

That's well worth checking out.

Surprising to see someone just 71 die from pneumonia - but he also had Parkinson's disease. Does that make you more vulnerable to other infections?

Had wondered what he was up to lately -- hadn't heard about the Parkinsons, as mentioned elsewhere in the thread...

He had already retired from acting summer of 2012.

Bob Hoskins retires from acting after being diagnosed with Parkinson's disease aged 69 http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/films/news/bob-hoskins-retires-from-acting-after-being-diagnosed-with-parkinsons-disease-aged-69-8022445.html

First time I recall seeing him was in Dennis Potter's Pennies From Heaven late 1970's.

RIP.

I think my first main exposure to him was "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" back in the mid-80s when I bought a hifi stereo VCR and rented that film... and the wackiness of it stuck with me all these years...

Sorry to hear this.... R.I.P.

But he was truly terrifying as Levrenty Beria in some movie I saw about Stalinist Russia. A very good actor.
