Source: Omaha World Herald-AP

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Eight governors are expected to join with local officials in Des Moines at an event to discuss climate issues.

The two-day Task Force on Climate Preparedness and Resilience meeting will begin Tuesday at the World Food Prize Hall of Laureates.

Des Moines Mayor Frank Cownie will host the meeting, which is part of President Barack Obama's efforts to address climate change.

Participants include the governors of California, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Vermont, Washington and Guam. All but the governor of Guam are Democrats. Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad, a Republican, isn't participating.

Of course he's not. He's been bought and paid for by the Koch bros. He's not allowed to participate.

Branstad is a founding member of ALEC and I believe wants to be a Walker, a Kasich, a Snyder. But those damn democrats get in his way.

I am sure hoping Jack Hatch can take him down.

I'm glad that Branstad accepted the Medicaid expansion. Still can't stand him. Can't believe he's been governor of this state for a large majority of my life. But he did do one thing right.

He's not attending this panel because he wasn't invited or because he turned it down? I'm guessing it's the latter, but I've not read the link.

He tried to turn it down, but the senate wasn't going to let him get away with it. In late April he proposed a compromise that made Medicaid recipients go through private insurance companies for coverage and they (the recipients) were all forced to pay something for Medicaid. The senate finally accepted this (I am still pissed about it, but they feared Branstad would try to vut it again and it was June).

Branstad then had to go talk to Sebelius and get her approval of the plan. She held off to the last moment - sometime in November I believe - and finally approved. So Iowa does not exactly have a Medicaid program like everyone else's. One really good reason to throw him out. He is much more concerned about being loved by the baggers and continues (with help from the press) to simply fool Iowans.

As for whether he was not asked or rejected an invite, I have not been able to find out. My guess is he rejected an invite as it is the normal custom to invite the local governor to a meeting in his state.

But then Obama has been dissed to the hilt by Republicans at all levels. Ol' Terry's the same as the rest.

I am Tired of Terry,
So I am backing Jack!

A report now says it's too late to save the West Antarctic ice sheet, so about 10 feet of sea level is inevitable. Somebody needs to pay for that.

So far, most major attempts at any carbon reduction exempts these countries.
