9/11 ceremony scraps 'Bridge Over Troubled Water' song after Christie

Source: AP via Detroit News

A last-minute change prevented what could have been an uncomfortable moment during the Sept. 11 museum dedication ceremony: remarks by New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie followed by the song “Bridge Over Troubled Water.”

The original program for Thursday’s ceremony had Christie’s remarks followed by Idina Menzel’s performance of the song. That sent social media aflutter with speculation that the scheduling was a jab at the governor over accusations that his staff intentionally clogged traffic near the George Washington Bridge to punish a political adversary.

But just before the ceremony, museum spokesman Anthony Guido announced that Menzel, star of the Broadway show “If/Then,” was sick and would not perform. In her place, another member of the show’s cast, LaChanze, herself a 9/11 widow, performed “Amazing Grace.”

Guido said the change had nothing to do with Christie or the song. . .

Not the right place for a laugh, for sure, but that's classic.

I'm sorry Christie.....it is a beautiful song that is intended to instill a sense of peace and tranquility.

The fact you and your mafia crew messed up big time "time for traffic troubles in Fort Lee" with the GW bridge should be no reason not to play the song.

In fact it would be a totally appropriate song both in honor of the moment but also of your political career which is floating by under the bridge over troubled waters.

This is what American democracy has come to, we must not offend the ruling class at public events? And social media prehumiliation ofthe event caused this cancellation.........

Wasn't offending the ruling class the premise of the American revolution, or has someone forgot already?

they could have had the ice-cutting chorus from FROZEN sing "Beware The Frozen Heart". That'd work for Christie too. And as a reminder that Dubbikins couldn't make it.
