In Israel, Ted Cruz blasts Palestinians and Obama administration
Source: Jerusalem Post
WASHINGTON Visiting Israel, Sen. Ted Cruz placed blame Monday for the recent failure of peace talks squarely on Palestinians, and their refusal to renounce terror and to affirm Israels right to exist as a Jewish state.
That, he said, is the principal impediment to peace, the Jerusalem Post reported.
He also was deeply critical of President Obama and his administration, asserting that his main approach in the region is to criticize and harangue and pressure the Israeli government, the Post reported.
He criticized the U.S. administration for pressuring Israel on the issue of settlements in the Palestinian territory. Those, Cruz said, are a question for the government of Israel, adding that its not Americas role to try to impose a policy about where Israeli settlements are located and where theyre not.

Yeah, I'm sure Bibi wants real peace. I'm so certain of it.

I guess that doesn't apply to tools like Cruz. I really, really, despise this ass hole. Are a majority of Texans brain damaged or something? How could this guy ever be voted in to a state wide office? Then again, considering Rick Perry is the governor...

(714 posts)And I remember Rachel Corrie. If Israel want's the Palestinians to renounce terror, then maybe they shouldn't crush peaceful protesters under armored bulldozers.
Baconeater
(15 posts)But c'mon, Rachel Corrie? First off, since I was 3, I was taught to say away from heavy equipment because it is dangerous. Secondly, it wasn't Israel who killed her, but a bulldozer operator, and it was ruled an accident.
Corrie might not have been for terrorism, but she was helping terrorists while she was in Israel.
The fact this was over 10 years ago, and some people still bring this up to state Israel doesn't want peace is completely silly. If Israel didn't want peace, surely, you could find better examples, and many examples.
The reason it is OK for Obama to blame Israel on this is because the Palestinians are the ones acting like babies here, and you need to appease the babies by blaming the "big bad wolf." This keeps peace talks alive.
Israel should not be adding to their settlements, but this conflict isn't about the settlements. There were no settlements in 1967 and the Arabs were still trying to push the Jews in the sea back then. The settlements are a smokescreen, but hopefully they can morph into the main negotiation tool that creates a peaceful two state solution. Not holding my breath though.

(714 posts)You stay away from bulldozers when they're doing work; when they're preparing to crush a pharmacists home you do what you have to do to stop it.
it wasn't Israel who killed her, but a bulldozer operator
A bulldozer operator who was a contractor for the Isreal army.
The "accident ruling" was absolute BS. I'll quote the wikipedia page (sorry for that) because it's fairly consise:
"The exact nature of her death and the culpability of the bulldozer operator are disputed, with eyewitnesses saying that the Israeli soldier operating the bulldozer deliberately ran over Corrie, and the Israeli government saying that it was an accident since the bulldozer operator could not see her."
She was wearing a day glow orange jacket and screaming at him through a megaphone. While waving her arms, and at one point standing on top of a pile of rubble so that she could look the operator directly in the eye.
And while you claim that she was "helping terrorists", she was working with the ISM (international solidarity movement). They have had individuals affiliated with them that have committed violent acts, but the ISM itself denounces violence.

(15 posts)Has many pluses and minuses when it comes to both sides:
The IDF produced a video about Corrie's death that includes footage taken from inside the cockpit of a D9. The video makes a "credible case", wrote Joshua Hammer in Mother Jones, that "the operators, peering out through narrow, double-glazed, bulletproof windows, their view obscured behind pistons and the giant scooper, might not have seen Corrie kneeling in front of them".[10] Corrie's father, Craig Corrie has said "I know there's stuff you can't see out of the double glass windows." But he has denied that as a valid excuse for the death of his daughter, saying "you're responsible for knowing what's in front of your blade." Based on his experience of overseeing work with bulldozers similar to the D9 while serving as a combat engineer in Vietnam he said: "It's a no brainer that this was gross negligence", adding "they had three months to figure out how to deal with the activists that were there."[45] Eye witness Tom Dale commenting on the 2012 verdict said: "Whatever one thinks about the visibility from a D9 bulldozer, it is inconceivable that at some point the driver did not see her, given the distance from which he approached, while she stood, unmoving, in front of it. As I told the court, just before she was crushed, Rachel briefly stood on top of the rolling mound of earth which had gathered in front of the bulldozer: her head was above the level of the blade, and just a few meters from the driver."[46]
Still, you don't stand in the way of a bulldozer. You have to be a complete idiot to do that or not care about your life.
Here is an actual summary of the findings http://elderofziyon.blogspot.ca/2012/08/summary-of-verdict-in-corrie-case.html#.U4ZB6IWFm5I

"adding that its not Americas role"
to try to impose a policy about where Israeli settlements are located and where theyre not.
Right you jackhole. Because we have NEVER tried to "impose a policy" anywhere or on anyone in the world.

So I assume that he also criticized the Bush administration for invading Iraq, and added that it wasn't America's role to try to impose policies about how other countries should be run?
Sometimes I think that if Obama said that the sun rose in the east, some Republican would pop up and insist that it rose in the west!
