Cops: Boy, 3, fatally shoots 18-month-old brother in Arizona

Source: CBS News

PAYSON, Ariz. - Police said an 18-month-old boy is dead after being shot in the head by his 3-year-old brother, reports CBS affiliate KPHO.

The boys were at a neighbor's apartment in Payson, Ariz., on Tuesday when they found a semi-automatic gun that belonged to the man they were visiting, according to the station. Police said the toddler's 3-year-old brother picked up the weapon and pulled the trigger.

we need to make some examples that such behavior with a weapon can not be tolerated. With ownership comes responsibilities.

It's pretty short sighted to blame "The Gun" or ownership of guns or use this as a reasoning for banning guns. Back to the social issues of correct storage and treating your firearms (and our young, for that matter) with care and respect.

They do sell lock boxes, in which, you could keep a mag (not seated) and a pistol. I can't imagine a youngster bypassing an electronic lock box, loading the mag and then chamber a round with those 3-year old muscles. Takes 5 seconds for an adult, however.

More gun safety and education is the answer here folks. The adult should be charged.

when kids in the home get hold of an unsecured gun.

The problem is that too many people want them out, loaded, safety off and completely ready to kill bad guys who come through the door. Bad guys, of course, wait until they're at work and come in and steal the gun.

If there are kids around, guns need to be locked up, period. Kids are stupid around guns, even when the parents have tried their best to educate them.

It is bad enough in their own home but who knows what others may have hidden or left out in the open? People may have rat poison, razor blades, knives, and of course GUNS. How long do kids sit before they explore another one's home?
This tragedy repeats itself week after week and all you hear from the gun crowd is silence. More guns means more "accidents" and more burials.

curiosity, like a cat. I always wanted to know what was in drawers, cabinets and behind closed doors. I was just a curious kid, and I surely know I'm not alone. I think most of us do that as kids. I did that in my home, but never in another's home, but then again that chance never came up, but I'm sure I would have joined in with one of my friends.

Did not realize their neighbor was an idiot who should never have been allowed to own a gun.

And yet, the NRA continues to insist that gun safety infringes upon the 2nd amendment.

I am sure there are some instances of young girls shooting someone, but I cannot recall reading of any. It seems that no matter how young the child is who picks up a gun and pulls the trigger, it is always a boy. What does that say? Our culture apparently creates an irresistible attractiveness of guns -- for boys.

Nowadays, gun ownership is even more common and people who keep guns are even more stupid. I am surprised that anyone will let their children out of their homes. The entire world has become toxic to children thanks to the NRA.

in so many of these home accident shootings the gun is always pointed at another person...many times a fatal head shot, when it could be pointed at a lamp or furniture instead.

Do our TV shows for 3 year olds include gun shooting at people? This child killing stuff is twisted.
