Moscow accuses United States of 'kidnapping' Russian hacker

Source: Reuters/Yahoo

WASHINGTON/MOSCOW (Reuters) - Russia accused the United States on Tuesday of violating a bilateral treaty and "kidnapping" a Russian accused of hacking into U.S. retailers' computer systems to steal credit card data.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security said on Monday the Secret Service had arrested Roman Valerevich Seleznev, 30, on July 5 for actions carried out from 2009 to 2011.

Russian media carried reports that the man arrested may be the son of a member of parliament, Valery Seleznev. The deputy told Russia's Itar-Tass news agency he had not been able to speak to his son but added: "This is a monstrous lie and a provocative act."

And provided a ton of evidence for. Maybe because the crook was in Florida.

They send agents across the ocean to stick it in the eye of Russia, but they wont even look at cyber thieves here in the US.

Those are some GOOOOD sandwiches!

Back on topic of the post though....... They didn't snatch the guy from Russia, so I hardly see how that treaty holds water in this case. He was in the middle of the Indian ocean. Do they think if a US citizen were to hack into their websites ON THEIR SOIL and arrest the person that the treaty would hold up? No, it wouldn't. Not to mention being the son of a highly placed (as opposed to a city council member) government official, what punishment would he really receive?

He was not on Russian territory and he screwed up here in the US. We nabbed his little butt. WTF Putin?
