Emails shed new light on UK link to CIA 'torture flights'

Police given crucial logs about Diego Garcia's role in rendition programme when it was allegedly used as a secret prison

The Observer, Saturday 12 July 2014 16.36 EDT

Crucial logs revealing flights to a British overseas territory when it was allegedly used as a secret US prison are in the possession of the police, the Observer has learned.

The revelation has raised concerns about why, despite repeated demands, details of the flights have not been shared with lawyers and MPs, who for years have been investigating the role played by Diego Garcia, an atoll in the Indian ocean, in the CIA's extraordinary rendition programme.

A Whitehall official was photographed last week carrying documents marked "sensitive" confirming that the logs recording details of planes landing and taking off at the atoll have been handed to detectives. The documents, a series of printed emails and handwritten notes made by the official, reveal internal Foreign Office discussions about the line to take in response to questions about the British territory raised by lawyers and MPs.

The Foreign Office has repeatedly stressed there is no evidence Diego Garcia was used in the rendition programme, with the exception of two occasions in 2002 when two planes, each carrying a detainee, landed to refuel. But in April leaked classified CIA documents from a forthcoming US Senate intelligence committee report revealed that the US had held "high value" detainees on Diego Garcia, which has been leased by Britain to the US since 1966, with the "full co-operation" of the British government. The Metropolitan police are currently investigating allegations that an opponent of Colonel Muammar Gaddafi was rendered via Diego Garcia.

Slowly the truth is coming out - that UK, and the US did do this things that war rumored - about torture, about people being whispered around the world on jets, to secret locations where they could be "interrogated" as the interrogators was seeing fit regardless of justice or regardless of basic human rights - Guantanamo Bay is just the top of a iceberg of violence and crimes who have been measured out by the biggest players in the world - and been justified by "the war on terror" - the actions of Tony Blair and George Walker Bush jr alone have destroyed 60 year of progress when it come to basic human rights all over the planet - And the sad part - most of this is possible been documented - by this documents - and lot of other documents we even do not know about for the moment - but who is in archives all over the world... The neo-conservatives - at least their masters - and men like Blair and Bush jr - deserve to be put on trial of crimes against humanity - and put in a prison for the rest of their natural life.... They are just criminal thugs and no better than the ones they tried to fight against - and no better than lets say the criminals who was put on trial in Nuremberg in 1946..

I would say basic human rights have been destroyed for at least 30-40 maybe 50 year by the actions of this gentlemen - and it Will take decades before most of the damage is undoing - and rebuild to any form of reality...

Just think - One time I admired Tony Blair - as a cool prime minister who gave something into UK again after the "horrible" years of conservative rule.... He was no better than Thatcher it ended up as.... I even think he was better to lie than Thatcher ever was... When he got into bed with Bush I understood he was not a good leader - rather the opposite.. And regardness of his self-justice about how he had no clue about how badly wrong he was - ha can not excuse himself from his responbility... neither can anyone else who was innvolved with this
