LINCOLN A civil liberties group and a veteran Latino activist chastised Gov. Dave Heineman Wednesday over a letter seeking information about unaccompanied illegal immigrant children who have been transferred to the state.
Heineman sent the letter, co-signed by four members of Nebraskas congressional delegation, to federal officials on Monday.
In a statement, the ACLU of Nebraska said release of the information requested could put the immigrant children in danger and raise privacy issues.
Tracking young children who are fleeing violence is not only unnecessary, it also raises serious privacy concerns by inviting the state to begin tracking the whereabouts of people in our state, said Amy Miller, the ACLUs state legal director.
