Marino Staffer Arrested for Bringing Gun to Cannon

Source: Roll Call

Capitol Police arrested a staffer for Rep. Tom Marino Friday morning on charges of carrying a 9mm handgun and magazine into the Cannon House Office building, CQ Roll Call has learned.

Ryan Shucard, the Pennsylvania Republican’s press secretary, was arrested around 9:15 a.m., according to Capitol Police spokeswoman Lt. Kimberly Schneider.

Shucard entered the southeast door of Cannon with the weapon. The Smith & Wesson 9mm and magazine were found during the search required for entry into the building, according to Schneider. People entering Cannon, including those with staff identification badges, like Shucard, are required to step through metal detectors and place bags on the belt of an X-Ray machine.

Shucard is charged with a carrying a pistol without a license, a felony. He is currently being processed at Capitol Police headquarters.

A very fine police force is already @ the Capital and it's office buildings so you don't need
to be packing when you go to work.

BTW Somebody should know if they have a gun on them before they go through
a security check point. No doubt this clown is a NRA member.

Why bring a gun today? An unregistered gun? Methinks something besides self defense.

Carrying a Pistol Without a License (CPWL): It is illegal to carry a pistol without a license or any deadly or dangerous weapon that is capable of being concealed anywhere in D.C. If the possession is outside the person’s “dwelling place,” business place, or property, the crime is a felony and is subject to a maximum $5,000 fine and/or 5 year imprisonment. Otherwise, it is a misdemeanor subject to a $1000 fine and a maximum 1 year sentence. While this is the current statute, the misdemeanor charge of illegal possession within a person’s home was challenged in the U.S. Supreme Court case of District of Columbia v. Heller, 128 S. Ct. 2783 (2008) as violating the Second Amendment. D.C. Criminal Code 22-4504(a).

of testing the security for some other interested party? Pretty stupid. But there must have been a reason for him to try to get in with a weapon and magazine of 9mm ammo. Was he going to take someone out? Lot of questions here. This not just benign stupidity. There was a purpose to this..

would support lifting the ban on guns in any congressional building, or the removal of the metal detectors. At your local Target though it's ok
