Stay Sought in Ruling on Va. Gay-Marriage Ban

A county court clerk in northern Virginia on Friday sought to delay a federal appeals court ruling striking down the state's same-sex marriage ban.

Attorneys for Michelle B. McQuigg, clerk of Prince William County's Circuit Court, asked for the delay while the decision was appealed to the Supreme Court. They argued the delay would "ensure the orderly resolution of the important constitutional question presented in this case while avoiding uncertainty for the public and irreparable injury to the commonwealth."

The American Civil Liberties Union of Virginia and Lambda Legal, in a filing Friday, opposed the stay.

A panel of the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Richmond ruled 2-1 Monday that Virginia's gay marriage ban approved by voters in 2006 is unconstitutional. It typically grants stays while cases are appealed to the Supreme Court....

-- She's a hardcore, foaming-at-the-mouth, rightwing Republican.
-- She's a former member of the Virginia General Assembly where she established the reputation of being (1) dumb as dirt and (2) a hardcore, foaming-at-the-mouth, rightwing Republican.
-- Her chief assistant, a idiot named Bob FitzSimmonds is now under fire for his vicious anti-Muslim remarks.

Prince William County is a strange place . . . once a quiet rural backwater, it's now a traffic-choked DC bedroom community with a growing Hispanic population, a lot of decent people, but a county government controlled by rightwingnutjobs.

And -- the County's rep in the VA House of Delegates is "Sideshow" Bob Marshall who is, believe it or not, dumber than Michele Bachmann but he keeps being re-elected.

I really can't add to what you've said. You are dead on correct. The County leadership makes the Tea Party look tame. These people where there when I was still there. And Bob Marshall IS dumber than Bachmann.

It's an odd place. It feels Liberal but the Right Wing crazies are dug in like a tick.
