State and county police to scale back presence in Ferguson

Source: St. Louis Post-Dispatch

CLAYTON • Police announced Wednesday plans to scale back their presence in Ferguson after several nights of relative calm there.

Missouri Highway Patrol Capt. Ronald S. Johnson said state troopers and county police would maintain a "reduced" presence along West Florissant Avenue and surrounding neighborhoods to maintain peace in Ferguson. Johnson said he is hopeful police can heal wounds in the community ripped open by the shooting of an unarmed teenager on Aug. 9.

"There's still a lot of work to do," Johnson said. " I truly believe we're headed to a good place."

There have been just seven arrests since Friday night, Johnson said. Police arrested one person Tuesday night and six others Saturday night.
