Lake Sheriff Gary Borders takes part in public Bible reading protest
By Ludmilla Lelis, Orlando Sentinel

11:13 a.m. EDT, April 2, 2012

TAVARES — Lake County Sheriff Gary Borders joined others today in reading from the Bible outside of the round courthouse to protest the arrest last year of a California pastor for reading the Bible aloud outside a California Department of Motor Vehicles office.

The protest was organized by Republican activist Ralph Smith, owner of Lake Tire and Auto in Tavares.

Anyone heard of the earlier Bible reading protest at the California DMV?

New Republican game, apparently.

but to be honest if it really is as simple as described (arrested for reading Bible aloud outside DMV), that was probably an inappropriate arrest.

should immediately leave California, where that sort of thing is apparently frowned upon.

And migrate to Florida where it is apparently encouraged.

or if they try to hinder me in any way to make me listen to them.

I once had to ask a pizza place to throw out two Catholic nuns who would not leave my family alone, no matter how many times we told them we were not Christian, we had our own religion and were not interested in hearing what they had to say. I kept my temper until they started telling my children that we were wrong, tried to give them some saint's medal and told them we were devil worshipers.

I was also once cornered in Salem, MA (I made the mistake of visiting on Samhain) and had to literally push through a group of bible thumpers to get away.

Hemet Church Members Sue CHP Over Bible-Reading Arrest at DMV

Pastor Brett Coronado, Mark Mackey and Edmond Flores, Jr., residents of Hemet, were outside the Department of Motor Vehicles at 1200 S. State St. just after 8 a.m. on Feb. 2.

Members of Calvary Chapel Hemet are suing the California Highway Patrol because they claim their free speech rights were violated when they were arrested while reading the Bible aloud in a DMV parking lot, according to a Murrieta law firm.

Pastor Brett Coronado, Mark Mackey and Edmond Flores, Jr., all residents of Hemet, were outside the Department of Motor Vehicles at 1200 S. State St. just after 8 a.m. on Feb. 2 when Mackey began reading scripture aloud, according to their attorneys. The DMV was scheduled to open at 9 a.m.

In a video of the arrest, a security guard told the men they needed to go somewhere else. Shortly after, a CHP officer pulled up, walked over to the men, took a Bible out of Mackey's hands and put handcuffs on him.

~snip~
According to California Penal Code 602.1 (b), the offense is listed as: "intentionally interfering with any lawful business carried on by the employees of a public agency open to the public, by obstructing or intimidating those attempting to carry on business, or those persons there to transact business with the public agency, and who refuses to leave the premises of the public agency after being requested to leave by the office manager or a supervisor of the public agency, or by a peace officer acting at the request of the office manager or a supervisor of the public agency."

There's a difference between preaching on the sidewalk where everyone can pass by if they don't want to listen, and doing it where, if they want to do state-related business, they have to listen.

There are a few of the much-vaunted 10 Commandments that could stand some serious enforcement.

We immediately need law enforcement for:

  • Thou shalt have no other gods before me;

  • Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image...;

  • Thou shalt not take the name of the lord thy god in vain;

  • Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy;

  • Six days shalt thou labor and do all thy work;

  • Honor thy father and mother;

  • Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's _____;

That should keep the Christers busy, don't you think?

The law of only 50 of the states in the Union say you shall not covet your neighbor's things so much you go over there and take them.

As for that graven image thing...

They were not amused, since the parts I read to them contradicted what they were trying to say.
what really got them going was my using the same book to prove them wrong.
I even borrowed one of THEIR bibles so that they couldn't say mine wasn't like theirs.

There are certain verses that Bible-thumpers tend to shy away from. Heck, you can even be called intolerant and accused of mocking Christianity if you mention these verses - which appear in the Bible

2 Kings 2:23-24
23 From there Elisha went up to Bethel. As he was walking along the road, some boys came out of the town and jeered at him. “Get out of here, baldy!” they said. “Get out of here, baldy!” 24 He turned around, looked at them and called down a curse on them in the name of the LORD. Then two bears came out of the woods and mauled forty-two of the boys.

Ezekiel 23:19-20
19 Yet she became more and more promiscuous as she recalled the days of her youth, when she was a prostitute in Egypt. 20 There she lusted after her lovers, whose genitals were like those of donkeys and whose emission was like that of horses.

Deuteronomy 25:11-12
11 If two men are fighting and the wife of one of them comes to rescue her husband from his assailant, and she reaches out and seizes him by his private parts, 12 you shall cut off her hand. Show her no pity.

*In Hemet, California, an assistant pastor and two elders from Calvary Chapel church were arrested for reading the Bible aloud outside a local Department of Motor Vehicles office.
The three men went to the Hemet DMV Feb. 2 before it opened and one of the men started to read the Bible aloud. Less than 30 minutes later, he was arrested for “impeding an open business” under Penal Code Section 602.1(b), according to attorneys from Advocates for Faith & Freedom, an advocacy group.
A security guard approached Mark Mackey as he was reading the Bible and told him to stop, according to a news release from Advocates for Faith & Freedom. The men believed that they had a First Amendment right to free speech as they were standing in a planter within the parking lot and were located on public property. Further, they were not interfering with any business of the DMV and were not yelling or disturbing the peace.
Ten minutes later, a California Highway Patrolman approached Mackey as he read, took the Bible out of his hands, and arrested him.
As the CHP officer was arresting him and putting him in his patrol car, the two men who were with him — Assistant Pastor of Calvary Chapel Hemet, Brett Coronado, and Ed Flores — asked the officer, “What law was he breaking?”
Instead of identifying a legal violation, the officer asked, “Were you preaching too?” After continuing to ask the officer for the legal violation, Coronado and Flores were also arrested by another CHP officer who had come to the DMV and were also cited for “impeding an open business.”

They knew full well that they were disturbing the peace - if people are queuing up quietly and then you have some morons coming in and "interfering" with their peace and quiet especially knowing that people are more than likely not of the same religion - that is wrong - then to actually stand in a planter stating they were on public property in a DMV parking lot which I believe would be government property - so we have the church interfering in state/government business.

If an Muslim/Jew/Wiccan/Buddhist had done something like this - I wonder how Mackey and his lackeys would react?
