Walmart to increase holiday hiring by 10 pct

Source: AP-OWH

NEW YORK (AP) — Walmart Stores Inc. says it plans to hire 60,000 temporary holiday workers for the crucial holiday season, an increase of 10 percent from last year.

The world's largest retailer also says current workers who want more hours during the holidays will get priority for them. The retailer, based in Bentonville, Arkansas, has been criticized by labor groups for low pay and intentionally keeping employees' hours low.

The news follows similar announcements from UPS, FedEx and Kohl's, which are also making more temporary hires this year.

A retailer's hiring plans can indicate its expectations for the holiday shopping season, which accounts for 20 percent of the retail industry's annual sales, according to the National Retail Federation.

Oh boy. Buy my own uniform for a 10 weeks of low pay. I hope I don't get trampled over on Black Friday!

I guess it's good news of sorts. Does mean they will be expecting stronger sales if seasonal hiring is up from last year.

Of course they have to hire more people. And every one of them will have fewer average hours per week so the rich Waltons can get richer.

Fuck Walmart and this asswipe of a newspaper.

Anyway they dont even need to hire these people all they need to do is give their current workers the hours rather than the current method of keeping their workers at 25 or less hours per week but they wont do that because the people who run walmart are examples of living shit.
