Coach tied to beating of gay couple leaves job

Source: AP-EXCITE

By MARYCLAIRE DALE

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — An assistant coach at a Roman Catholic high school has resigned over his role in a beating that left two gay men injured, church officials in Philadelphia said Thursday.

About a dozen young adults were linked to the Sept. 11 encounter after police released surveillance video Tuesday and social media users mined online posts, including a group photo taken at a restaurant, to try to match the faces with names.

"Violence against anyone, simply because of who they are, is inexcusable and alien to what it means to be a Christian," Archbishop Charles Chaput said Thursday in a statement.

No arrests have been made, but some of the young men and women seen in the video have submitted to voluntary interviews with police, a spokesman said Thursday.

it's called "due process." We still do have some of it left in this country, although judging by some of the threads here on this incident, I don't know for how much longer.

Although i firmly believe in due process, does anyone REALLY think that if this mob was composed of black kids instead of yuppie whites that no one would have been arrested yet?

if you do think so, please pm me because i have some nice oceanfront land in Utah to sell!

They haven't tried to synchronize lawyers yet, or stab each other in the back to plead out. If they can pin down who held one of the victims to be a punching bag, you're looking at felony assault, serious hard time.

a grey backpack - the bag that was stolen from one of the men?

I agree that if these were people of color, there would have been arrests by now. Not only that - but every male of color in The Greater Philly area would have been a suspect.

Another group of hypocritical kkkristians, spreading the love (and hate). Hope justice is done. Hope whoever was responsible pays the highest price possible for such brutatity. And we are concerned about ISIC and their brutality?

the sinner"...wink, wink, nod, nod.

They forgot Rule #1 in Catholicism - don't get caught. Whether it's molesting little kids, beating up gays, or financial fraud and deception - it's all okay as long as you don't caught or embarrass the church.

Gotta love organized "religion".

My wife is Catholic and one of the most loving and accepting people I know. She, like 99.9% of people condemns all of the crimes committed by the clergy or anyone else in such a position of power and influence.

Your bigoted post is a sweeping smear of a lot of good people.

''The gay men, who are in their late 20s, said they were held down, punched and beaten after they bumped into the large group on the street. Members of the group hurled gay slurs as the men were pummeled, they told police. One man was left with a broken eye socket and a wired jaw, while his partner had bruises and a black eye.''

I would think the victims would have been shown photos (if not a lineup) by now and have been asked to identify their attackers.

Charges and arrests to follow.

That would be due process in my opinion.

Maybe they're always slow....but the longer arrests and charges are delayed the more it suggests the police have other obligations.

I'm guessing they are under pressure not to make hasty decisions and ruin the lives of fine upstanding citizens with the social baggage that being tied up in the legal system can impart.

No such issues for the regular suspect types.

Business as usual.

Truth is, and always has been, that these programs build bullies; uptight Republican whelps that band together to terrorize normal students.

The truly gifted bullies move on to professional athletics where they make shitloads of cash for hurting other people on the field/court and in their personal lives.*

Sounds like a true Values program to me

*OK, that last is a broad generalization, some pro-athletes are good people that give back to the community.
