LOS ANGELES (AP) Forty-six years ago Ivan Schneider, successful Manhattan lawyer, bought himself the Jaguar convertible that would feature in a most unusual tale of unrequited love.
It was the first (and "prettiest" of many luxury cars he would own, his companion on fast drives and the only one that was ever stolen.
Forty-six years later, a U.S. Customs and Border Patrol analyst running a routine export check through a stolen car database came up with a hit. The 1967 Jaguar XKE was hot.
The problem: It was already on a cargo ship, in a container, headed for Europe, two days out of the Port of Long Beach on the Pacific Ocean.

An Omahan's long wait for the return of a 1953 Triumph motorcycle came to an end Wednesday, nearly five decades after it was stolen from his backyard.
The motorcycle, a Tiger T 100, was returned from California via truck to Donald DeVault, 73, who got a good look at the bike for the first time in 46 years when it was delivered to McMullen Trucking in Carter Lake, Iowa.
Well, I love it,'' DeVault said after spying the bike at a McMullen warehouse.
Yeah, I think I'll put it in my living room,'' he said.

(12,504 posts)I worked in a gas station/car wash during college in the early 70s, and a Jag owner asked me to check his oil (like the top picture Jag you posted). With a 12 quart oil pan, it took 6 quarts just to show up on the bottom tip of the dipstick.
After the 3rd quart I kept checking underneath the car wondering if I was somehow spilling on the ground. It took 2 more quarts to get it up to the full level on the stick. Imagine being down 8 quarts of oil. I can remember that experience like it was yesterday, and was glad I drove a beetle and not an oil hog Jag.

(13,775 posts)I had a picture of one on my college dorm wall. It was a dream to have one. And, remember, I'm pretty indifferent to cars.
I never had one, but when we bought a home in the 1980's, a neighbor had one. The exact model I'd always dreamed of. White convertible, black top, red leather interior! I loved seeing it around the neighborhood.
