Senate sends Syrian rebel arms bill to Obama

REBECCA KAPLAN CBS NEWS

With a bipartisan vote, the Senate on Thursday approved a request from President Obama to arm and train Syrian rebels in the fight against the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), sending a bill to Mr. Obama for a final signature.

The measure was part of a spending bill that funds the government through Dec. 11, averting the chance of a repeat of the 2013 government shutdown when the current funding bill runs out at the end of the month.

The bill passed 73-22.

What a sad turn of events.

We've learned nothing at all from the horrific Bush years other than when the MIC wants war, by gum they get it.

The lies from a Republican are no different than the lies from a Democrat. This is a bullshit, completely unnecessary action that is sure to fail because it is not meant to succeed.

At least we know who we're going to be "defending" the country from five years down the road.

I'm disgusted.

to avoid a government shutdown... Yet the media, including the NY Times, have focused on war war war.

My entire congressional delegation voted against it.
Both of the Republicans in the House of Representatives, and both of the Republicans in the Senate.

Anti-foreign interventionism is one issue that both the liberal left and the conservative right agree on. Another is government spying. There is also distrust of big corporations. The ideologies are different, but they sometimes reach the same conclusions. I find this very interesting, and I wonder sometimes if it has any political potential, e.g. some kind of populism.

CIA Agent: "Are you moderate?"
Fighter: "err... ...umm ...Yes" *shifty eyes*
CIA Agent: "Good enough for me! *mutters its not like we can verify who you are anyway* ...and you may want to get that eye thing checked"

The next time these assholes start talking about cutting welfare or unemployment benefits remind them that they voted to hand millions of dollars to arm some rebels fighting in some far off nation.

Remember what happened the last time "we" funded rebels in that region?

The Mujahideen, Taliban, Bin Laden and September FUCKING 11th

The opposition needs to give up on overthrowing Assad, forge a political settlement, and work together on getting rid of ISIS and the other jihadis. Not more civil war.

I would have moved there and not have to be disappointed over and over again. If elected assholes worried more about governance and less about getting re-elected, then we would all be better off.
