Kim Jong-Un's Sister Takes Control in North Korea
Source: The Diplomat
Kim Yo-jong, the younger sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, might be leading the hermit kingdom instead of her brother, a recent report from Seoul-based think tank, North Korea Intellectuals Solidarity (NKIS) revealed.
According to NKIS on October 1, Kim Jong-un who has failed to appear at official events since early September is getting medical treatment at Bonghwa Clinic from both domestic and foreign medical teams. Meanwhile, in his absence, Kim Yo-jong is charged with handling important government decisions.
An unnamed source told NKIS that a decision to give Kim Jong-un extended medical treatment was made at a meeting of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Workers Party of Korea on September 6. The meeting was reportedly held at Kim Yo-jongs suggestion.
As a result of the meeting, Pyongyang decided four things. First, to give special and extended medical treatment to Kim Jong-un in order to quickly restore his health. Second, all North Korean high level officials and party members should be responsible in following Kims previous orders. Third, the party and army should be on wartime-like alert while Kim Jong-un is out of commission. Lastly, all the important matters related to government administration should be reported to Kim Yo-jong, so that Kim Jong-un can concentrate on getting better.

This bears watching as the "hermit kingdom" has been known to flex its muscles during times of leadership flux/crisis, like when Kim Jong-un took over, or when his dad took over from his grandfather.

(51,076 posts)He use to deny it but I walked up on him sitting in his car one day and he rolled the window down before he realized what was on the radio. Tried to tell me that he was searching channels and I just happened to be there when it landed on that channel, cause I laughed when I recognized who it was. Jones has a way of talking kinda like rushbo has that is recognizable. I know better cause I could see him well as I was walking up on his blind side and he was taking it all in, hook, line and sinker. One day his wife was complaining about money and said that if he wasn't sending that guy on the radio money each month they'd have more to spend. I have no idea as to who that guy on the radio was that she was referring to but I have my hunches.
When it comes right down to it its no wonder the weak minded are as they are.

They pay people as little as possible and fight for every tax cut and deduction.
Still, they sink BILLIONS into putting out this propaganda because they feel they HAVE TO or they will lose people like this to (The HORROR!!!) Common Sense and Human Decency.
I tell these people that this stuff dates back to con artists reinterpreting the Bible to fit their agenda. It's how they cherry picked the intelligence to claim Iraq was behind 9/11 and had hidden labs under palaces and nukes on ICBMs. They made it sound like it was going to look like the a James Bond movie "You Only Live Twice" with commandos dropping down from ropes into a secret underground missile complex filled with guys in lab coats and other guys with machine guns.
You can just picture both Saddam and UBL in there trying to get to a big red button inexplicably maked "Launch" in English.
Might as well listen to Coast To Coast and freak out over "Shadow People" who come from some interdimensional realm and who's mission in our reality is to sit quietly and watch you while you are sleeping.

(19,564 posts)Long term success of the coup remains to be seen, but I think there was a power play and he fell on the losing side of the struggle. At least for now. How long has he been missing from the spotlight now? It's been weeks, and that's not really characteristic of the megalomaniac stay out of the spotlight for that long.

(19,564 posts)Come on, in our well fed nation we know your ankles don't just break because you're 300lbs or so. Sure something like that may float in a nation where most of the people are starving, but it's not reality. Not even close.
A lot of the times these rumors have a vein of truth, so he may have suffered a broken ankle. It happens. Two however would imply a chance at something a bit more nefarious. Without a violent accident, or something of the like, it's not easy to end up with two broken ankles from normal activity.

(9,971 posts)a dang Dragon Lady! Anyone remember Mme. Nhu? I was looking at some pictures of Jong-un and he looks decidedly unhealthy, has gained a ton of weight over the last 6 months. The rumors are that he has diabetes and gout, also that he broke both ankles falling off his high-heeled shoes. Seriously, though, his face looked puffy, as if he were retaining fluid, which might indicate something else, possibly cardiac problems. In addition, I think he is not only not too bright, but probably mentally unstable, not a good combination. In any case, I don't think either one of them runs things. I think there's a shadowy cabal behind them, made of high-ranking army officers.

(101,316 posts)Rather than the word of a South Korean 'think tank', this is what's actually happening - and if someone was 'taking over', I find it hard to believe they'd be sending high-powered delegations to South Korea:
The North Korean delegation, ostensibly for the closing ceremony of the Asian Games in Incheon, was led by Hwang Pyong-so, the top political officer at the Korean Peoples Army and considered by analysts to be the countrys second most important official after Kim.
...
The two sides met briefly in the morning. Unification ministry spokesman Lim Byeong Cheol told reporters that the North Korean officials would hold their main talks over lunch with South Korean unification minister Ryoo Kihl-jae and national security director Kim Kwan-jin before flying home later on Saturday.
...
The other North Korean officials, Lim said, were Choe Ryong-hae and Kim Yang-gon, secretaries to the ruling Workers Party. Hwang, the No. 2, holds other top posts, such as a vice chairman of the powerful National Defence Commission, led by Kim, and is a vice marshal of the army.
...
Cheong Seong-chang, of the private Sejong Institute, speculated that the North Korean officials were probably carrying a message from Kim. The visit could also be part of an effort to show that Kim had no problem making high-profile political decisions and had no serious health problems, he said.
