The Cobb County Jail is no longer accepting inmates after an inmate developed a fever. The man told jail officials that he recently traveled to Africa.
UPDATED: Guy tested negative.

(23,156 posts)was to wonder if he didn't say that just to get some sort of special treatment, or maybe he's hoping they'll release him more quickly.
Can they verify he was in Africa?

(39,961 posts)If it's a first offense, they usually let you go the next morning, so I don't see early release as a reason to volunteer that information.

(39,961 posts)but being in jail with someone that may have Ebola is a lot worse LOL. Having Ebola is a hell of a lot worse!

(2,086 posts)It's appropriate. Just a personal rant. Love DU, but sometimes the fixation on certain topics gets over-played and it's irksome.
I really don't think that Ebola is this centuries "Spanish Flu". Yes it's horrible and I sympathize with the current round of victims, I really do.
Some of us, just like any other group, thrive on drama. I find it to be a most tedious trait of our species. Then again, I think most will agree that I'm a bit of a curmudgeon.

(106,886 posts)Topical cable media, in general, is great for as-it-is-happening coverage. Yet absent that, many seem to simply dig and dig for some new "tidbit" to spin a story.
To paraphrase something mentioned here on DU this week "3,000 airline flights took off and landed safely today" isn't news.
I guess my snide comment really only generated more traffic.

(115,679 posts)It seems inappropriate to release info before having test results, as it could result in people being able to tell who the person being tested was, and then them running into problems later. It also could lead people who suspect they might have it to not seek medical help until they are quite sick, leaving them contagious in the world for longer. Because if it was just a fever, or a cold, or the flu, or post travel stuffiness, and word gets out they might have had ebola, I can see people reacting quite negatively to them later.
Does this make sense? I am trying to think this out as I type it.

(39,961 posts)I like that so many of these "suspected" cases are turning out negative. Maybe it will dial down the paranoia a bit.
