ST. LOUIS (KTVI) Homicide detectives from the St. Louis police department have been called to the scene of a fatal officer involved shooting in the 4100 block of Shaw Blvd. in south St. Louis.
The shooting occurred around 7:30 pm.
Police say an off-duty officer working a second job attempted pedestrian check. The suspect fled on foot, and officer pursed the suspect. The suspect turned and fired at the officer. The officer fearing for his life returned fire fatally wounding the suspect.
A crowd has gathered at the corner store at Klemm next to the Shaw Market. Some in the crowd say the suspect in his 20s, was shot 16 times. They also say the suspect was only armed with a sandwich.

(10,103 posts)If I were there, I would be on the street, too. It's repulsive.

(5,082 posts)In Michigan cops routinely plant guns and drugs on people. I recall an officer who was fired trying to expose it. There needs to be MORE than a national conversation on this. There should be a National Strike and arrests of every officer involved in this shit.

I expect there will be a lot of voter intimidation, come November. Just wait.

(2,086 posts)with a pedestrian. Usually the cop runs a computer check for wants/warrants. Sometimes it's just a stop-and-frisk.
Can be valid, even whilst off-duty, but is a lot sketchier off-duty. Maybe related to the security job.
St. Louis coppers are required by law to be armed at all times and are expected to perform their official duties if the need arises.
I'm not justifying this shooting, not enough information.

The general public AND the DoJ needs to begin making exhaustive list of
ALL of these abuses of police power, because apparently NO ONE
is doing that.

Notice also the focus on the failure of the leadership in keeping things calm. Like pacification is their primary duty.

(5,402 posts)You are saying the journalist or the editor (the latter are the ones who usually write the headlines) used the word "unrest" as an intentional reference to the phrase "the natives are restless" in order to point out that the people upset were black?
It's obvious that race is playing at all sorts of levels in St. Louis and the rest of the country, but I'm unsure the wording was intentional in that respect.

(32,723 posts)Ask yourself. Would they say this if the people of Beverly Hills were upset with trigger happy cops?
They certainly wouldn't be acting like the citizens brought this upon themselves. AT ALL.

(28,552 posts).. in fact fire at the officer first, then this was a justified shooting and IT WOULD BE IDIOTIC TO TARNISH WHAT HAPPENED TO BROWN WITH THIS, THE INCIDENTS ARE NOT REMOTELY COMPARABLE.

The best way to avoid getting shot is to not shoot at others, cops or civilians.

(11,065 posts)That's rather a no-brainer. If the guy pointed a gun at the officer or even reached for a gun it's still a justified shooting. And it would be a justifiable shooting if the officer wasn't an officer but an ordinary civilian.

(8,694 posts)not even grazed in his "attack". YET the kid was shot 17 times, while on the GROUND. Why else would the cops be seen digging up the ground with shovels looking for spent bullets. (Argus livestreamer saw them) How else do bullets get lodged IN THE GROUND?
