Clergy arrested in 'Ferguson October' march

FERGUSON, Mo. Police arrested clergy and activist academic Cornel West on Monday as they led hundreds of protesters in a march to the police station to draw attention to police shootings nationwide.
The protests Monday were the culmination of "Ferguson October" four days of activism and civil disobedience sparked by the killing of Michael Brown, an unarmed, 18-year-old black man, by a white police officer on Aug. 9 in this St. Louis suburb.
The events came as protesters, who have been demonstrating for two months, expressed frustration with a criminal justice system that they believe has treated people of color unfairly. And, as they have for two months, they unsuccessfully demanded the arrest of Darren Wilson, the officer who shot Brown. A grand jury is still deciding whether to charge him in the shooting.
"Moral Monday," as the activists called it, began at Wellspring Church in Ferguson. The demonstrators walked two blocks to the police station in heavy rain as leaders with bullhorns read the names of people killed by police nationwide, including Venderrit Myers Jr, 18, killed last Wednesday by a white police officer in St. Louis. Police say Myers, who was black, shot first.

(1,717 posts)is probably the most righteous person I have ever met.
He walks the walk.
Reminds me of HD Thoreau when he was visited by
friends while in jail for refusing to pay taxes to support
the 1840's war of aggression against Mexico.
"What are you doing in there?" a friend asked.
"What are you doing out there?" HD replied.
Good question . .
