SC governor defends Confederate flag at Statehouse: Not ‘a single CEO’ has complained
Source: Raw Story
South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley (R) on Tuesday said that there was no need to remove the Confederate battle flag from the Statehouse grounds because it was not an issue for CEOs, and the state had fixed racist perceptions by electing an Indian-American governor.
During a South Carolina gubernatorial debate, Democratic candidate Sen. Vincent Sheheen called on the flag to be retired to a museum.
I think the people of South Carolina are tired of having an image across America thats not truly who we are, Sheheen explained, adding that everyone should rally together under a flag that unites us all, the American flag, that looks toward the future, and not the past.
Haley responded that the Confederate flag was a sensitive issue.
What I can tell you is over the last three and a half years, I spent a lot of my days on the phones with CEOs and recruiting jobs to this state, the governor noted. I can honestly say I have not had one conversation with a single CEO about the Confederate flag.

They just don't care about how grossly ignorant and crude they appear. This type/portion/segment of amerikkkan culture be damned!!!!!!

(8,020 posts)not letting the south secede. There's no way legal slavery would have lasted into the 20th century in any case. I mean wage slavery survives...... But how sweet it would be to be rid of those ignorant m'thas. Ms Bigmack

I could accept your proposal possibly if Southern secession were accompanied by universal chattel emancipation and universal right of freed bondsmen to relocate to the North.
Biggest mistake this country ever made, imo, was when Sherman and his troops burned the state of SC to the ground on his march north. Sherman should have instead transferred all land property and buildings thereon to the state's freed bondsmen with clear titles thereto. Any SC plantation owners objecting to that dispensation should have faced a hangman's noose. See, that's how you deal with treason and traitors: you take their property and dispossess them. Lincoln had far more charity to those treasonous bastards than I.

(37,748 posts)I think the mistake was simply in stopping Radical Reconstruction in 1877.
I think your solution would set a bad precedent, and would have been illegal (regardless of what an "ignorant m'tha" may or may not think...)

(9,070 posts)Nikki Haley is one of a current crop of off-the-wall crazies.
Actually, when I lived and worked in SC, there were plenty of racists and nuts, but there were also some pretty good Democratic politicians:
Senator Bryan Dorn was solid and I worked for Governor Richard Riley in the early 80's.
Nikki is the Southern Palin...

(128 posts)South Carolina is giving away millions of dollars by not accepting the Medicaid expansion. I guess she'd rather see people die and hospitals close. Our roads and bridges suck - she won't raise the gas tax so people from NC and GA cross over and buy gas. Nothing is done for this state except give tax breaks to huge corporations who bring jobs except they are minimum wage or hire temps. Usually they bring their own people for "the good jobs".
