US agency warns car owners to get air bags fixed

Source: AP-EXCITE

DETROIT (AP) — U.S. safety regulators are warning owners of more than 4.7 million vehicles that have been recalled for air bag problems to get them repaired immediately.

The warning issued Monday by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration covers vehicles from multiple manufacturers that date to 2002.

Inflators can rupture in air bags made by Takata Corp., causing metal fragments to fly out when the bags are inflated in crashes. So far, automakers have recalled about 12 million vehicles worldwide because of the problem.

FULL short story at link.

how it's only 4 deaths so don't bother getting the airbags replaced. And there'll be others saying to stop blaming Obama for the faulty airbags. Blah, blah, blah.

I checked my car. It's not on a list, but I'm grateful to be aware of this. Thanks!

You're right. How tough would it have been for the reporter to include that link? Sheesh.

"Dealers will replace the front passenger airbag inflator with a newly made replacement. If a replacement is not available as a temporary measure the dealer will disable the air bag and advise the customer not to use the front passenger seat, according to the NHTSA documents."
