Sears, Kmart add Thanksgiving shopping hours

Source: AP

HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. (AP) — Sears and Kmart say they will open on Thanksgiving day again this year with extended hours to draw shoppers.

Sears will open at its earliest time ever — letting shoppers in at 6 p.m. on Thanksgiving. The retailer decided two years ago to open on Thanksgiving and nudged up its opening time by two hours this year.

Kmart will open its doors at 6 a.m. on Thanksgiving and stay open for 42 hours straight, an hour longer than last year.

Boycott them. If any entity is "anti family" or committing the "War on Christmas", contrary to what Fox News and talk radio and Breitbart.com will tell you it's not "THE LEFT" - it's corporate greed.

Holiday hours are terrible for store employees. On the other hand, I personally hate being with my family on any day of the week or year, and would probably jump at the opportunity to work extra hours and pick up some extra peanut wages if it meant not having to deal with the usual bickering and drama.

I just wish more places were open so that people like me who don't want to spend it with "loved ones" (who I don't have -- I have relatives with DNA who hate everyone including themselves, and don't hesitate to show it) don't have to just sit home and be bored. The soup kitchens aren't an all-day thing either if you're really looking to get out.

I'm "anti-family" because my experience has been it's a corrupt institution borne of feudalism and tribal warfare.

Some families are well-ordered and non-aggressive -- they're like Switzerland.

My family, meanwhile, is a merging of Northern Ireland and Somalia.

Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day

Thanksgiving Day is observed on the fourth Thursday in November. Christmas Day is observed on December 25, or if it falls on a Sunday, it is officially celebrated on the following Monday. M.G.L. c. 4, § 7, cl. 18th. Most retail stores may not open on Thanksgiving Day or Christmas Day, and Massachusetts law specifies the limited categories of establishments that may open on those holidays. These include, for example, convenience stores, gas stations, and florists. When Christmas falls on a Sunday, retailers cannot operate on that day unless otherwise exempt. M.G.L. Chapter 136, § 6 (50).

The CEO of this once iconic brand use to run a hedge fund, and now that he runs two operations he not only has he sold off stores, closed stores, but he feels in his need of greed to be a responsible huckster and make the employees work, while he probably goes on a vacation, the great American way the rich and the poor, this is a classic example of greed and mismanagement

they cut the price of their cheaply made knockoff, and eventually drop the original producer of the tool. This has happened numerous times. It's a shitty, shitty company, and they are on the same level as Wal Mart to me.

My mother-in-law and her daughter both work full time and do all the Christmas shopping for their families. Thanksgiving isn't a big deal for them since they see their relatives all the time. They kind of chill out on Thanksgiving, then get up as early as possible to go to the stores together and do a marathon. I can see where having an extra day to go shopping would be very attractive to them.

ie...Bullshit to pay ratio is high on one end and low on the other

all jobs should have a BPR rating

i'm ok with a drill sarge calling me a 'cunt' @ $12+ personal and societal satisfaction
i'm ok with a quality assurance person calling me a 'cunt" $35 systems administration and technical satisfaction
i'm not ok with a customer calling me a "cunt" @$8.50 and no satisfaction

I only shop online on the Thanksgivings weekend.
I wouldn't be caught dead in the shopping crowds.

It would suck if the employees are forced to work on the T-G

But it's good if it's voluntary and they get to make extra money.
