Gov. Jerry Brown wins historic fourth term

Source: Sacramento Bee

Gov. Jerry Brown won re-election Tuesday to a historic fourth term, buoyed by an improving economy and a liberal-leaning electorate in a race so lopsided Brown barely bothered to campaign.

The election is likely the last for Brown, who first won office 40 years ago, in 1974, and is the state’s longest-serving governor. Brown’s agenda in his final term is expected to focus heavily on policies addressing climate change and on two controversial legacy projects: construction of a high-speed rail system and a water conveyance that eluded Brown when he was governor before.

The continuation of Brown’s administration will also test the patience of a Democratic-controlled Legislature that has agitated in recent years for more spending on social services and education. Brown has resisted Democrats’ most ambitious efforts, including proposals to extend temporary tax increases passed in 2012.

Brown led Republican Neel Kashkari 58 percent to 42 percent in early returns.

In his last race against Meg Ryan, the ads were non-stop. She was running radio ads 2 years before the election.

My thought is that Kashkari was using this race to set himself up for the next run (knowing he didn't stand a chance in hell against Brown). Also, he looks like an evil guy out of a Hollywood superhero movie.

Kashkari did those creepy TV ads where he pulls a drowning child from a pool then, while the kid sits next to him wrapped in a towel, Kashkari talks about how he wants to save our schools.

Even watching him in the debates, I had the impression he was hiding something.
I know I'm being wrong about how he looks creepy, so I take that back, but something about him just doesn't seem honest.

U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren, who has fashioned herself as the next hope of the liberal grassroots, argues in her new memoir, A Fighting Chance, that California gubernatorial hopeful Neel Kashkari lied to her during his tenure at the U.S. Treasury, where he helped run the Wall Street bailout program known as the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP). Kashkari's campaign fired back with furious denials, the Los Angeles Times reports.

Warren, who was in charge of oversight of TARP at the time, claims that Kashkari assured her in a November 2008 meeting that the bailouts of major banks were over, and that further payments would target small banks. Within 48 hours, she recalls, news broke of additional bailout funds for large banks: "They sent us out of the room knowing we believed that the big bailouts were over and knowing exactly how wrong that belief was."

Warren, who said she was "stunned" and "furious," also notes that Kashkari disputed the term "bailout."

He is one bizarre, apparently very egocentric, overly confident dude from what I can tell.

than a few flaky, wishy-washy Dems who helped to inflict Arnold on us in the not too distant past. Fortunately, the adults, lead by Jerry Brown, are back in charge. Proud to say I voted for him each time his name has appeared on a ballot for statewide office. Looking forward to having him in Sacramento for another term.

'm FURIOUS about the fracking and I noticed he stayed silent during the time occupy members were being abused by the police. Not only in Davis but especially in Oakland. Yeah, I'm glad he's not a Rick Scott but I think we can do better. 2018 will bring in new blood. Personally, I hope Kamala Harris runs for governor. The first African-American and the first African-American governor of California.
