Al-Shabaab militants kill 36 Christian quarry workers in Kenya

Militants from the Somalia-based al-Shabaab terror group have killed 36 mainly Christian quarry workers, intensifying security fears in much of Kenyas north.
Witnesses said the attackers surrounded the camp in a remote district near the Somali border shortly after midnight on Tuesday, roused the sleeping workers and ordered those who could not prove they were Muslims to lie on the ground before spraying them with bullets.
It was the second such massacre in recent weeks. On 22 November, al-Shabaab militants stopped passengers on a Nairobi-bound bus and killed the 28 Kenyans who could not recite the Muslim statement of faith known as the Shahada.
The killings occurred in Koromey in Mandera County, about nine miles from the border with Somalia. The area is predominantly settled by Kenyan Somalis who are mainly Muslims.

Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta has said "we will not flinch" in the war against Islamist group al-Shabab after a massacre near the Somali border.
"This is a war against Kenya and Kenyans," he said on national TV. "It is a war that every one of us must fight."
Kenya's police chief, David Kimayo, and Interior Minister Ole Lenku are being replaced.

(101,316 posts)That's the 'why', and that is what the article explicitly says. Al-Shabaab lumped everyone who couldn't be convincing Muslims together, by murdering them.
What possible political reason could you need to divide these Christians into denominations?

I was speaking generally about the press, as indicated by my reference to the M.E. I was raised Maronite, and many of the political discussions I'm involved in concern how different Christian sects are treated by different Muslim sects. Again, my apologies since you viewed my post as off-topic.
