Man rescued after lions maul him at Barcelona Zoo

MADRID (AP) — Officials in Spain say a man has been rescued from the lions' enclosure at Barcelona Zoo after being seriously mauled by three lions.

Barcelona's fire department was called Sunday to the northeastern city's zoo where witnesses had seen a man wearing a military-style uniform jump into the den, according to a statement from the city government.

Emergency services used fire hoses to distance the lions from the man, who had been attacked and dragged into a tunnel within their enclosure.

Around half an hour after he had entered the enclosure, rescue services removed the man, described as a 45-year-old Spanish national, and took him to a hospital where he is in serious, but not life-threatening, condition, the statement says.

According to local reports, the man, named by El Pais as Justo Jose MP, is a neo-Nazi demonstrator.

He was arrested last month in the city centre after draping banners emblazoned with Swastikas over the famous Casa Mila building in an anti-abortion protest.

It is not known whether the incident at the zoo was a demonstration, though fire fighters said the man could not have entered the enclosure accidentally.

Seems he really got what he deserved.

I'm so sick of media taking the responsibility of a person out of the equation. It used to be pretty much understood that if you poke at a wild animal you might get bitten and that was your fault because you should have known better.

Just like don't touch the red-hot burner on the stove. It is going to hurt.

October, 1973.

I went into the gorilla house, where I saw the albino gorilla Snowflake having sex with another gorilla. I didn't realize I was watching a sexual act at first; it was a good deal like a brawl. A mother with young children who were also watching realized when I did what was going on, and she quickly ushered her children out of there.

Snowflake was a big attraction there.

Another odd thing about this zoo; if you look at a map of it, you will see it is shaped very much like the shape of the state of Florida.

and I don't know why.
